So...airport security...need help.

Post » Sat May 11, 2013 3:51 pm

This is pretty much a last ditch effort. I misjudged the weight of my bag and I know it is over the 50lbs limit for check ins. Anyone know a trick to bypass the automatic weigh-ins? I am going to use the touch screen to put in my information. I literally cannot get rid of a single thing in my bag...was thinking of kind of lifting up the bag a little bit as it is weighed but for some reason I don't think that will work.

In case people are wondering I am going home for the summer and need to take these things back home.

I think this post is sarcastic, but I am almost 100% sure that smuggling a tank of helium is far more illegal than going over the bag limit.

If you have a carry on/backpack, move whatever you can into there. They don't weigh those, at least in my experience.

This isn't really airport security related. More "I don't want to pay the fee for having a heavy bag". Just pay the overweight bag fee. They definitely won't let you hold the bag while they weigh it at check-in.

Uh, a tank of helium wouldn't reduce the weight anyway. Gas tanks are heavy.

When I was moving and shoving things in my bag, I was given the option to pay for the overweight fee or pay USD $25 for them to give me a duffel bag to put my extra things in. This was four year ago, though.

Other than that, the only thing I could recommend would be to put on clothes. Lots and lots of clothes. And lots of underwear. If you haven't already.

Short of that: Balloons. Lots and lots of balloons.

Don't over-do this, if your bag is floating in mid-air they might get suspicious.

I have $25 on me. I thought it was $50. It is a damned 15 minute flight and I don't have $50 on me anymore. Just lent my roommate $300 which he will pay me back next semester(he is good for it).

But if it is $25 then I suppose I just gotta svck it up. At least I have a job lined up when I get home...

So I guess this thread is resolved then? Lock and drop Mods.

Just bear in mind that this was four years ago at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, so things might've changed and different airlines/airports may have different policies. Oh and I remember scrambling to an ATM at 5 AM so it was probably also cash only, which you seem to have. And this was an international flight, so the policy might've also varied.

Good luck!

Yeah, this is what I was going to suggest. Fill your carry-on bag, pockets, pull out and wear any heavy coats...

Do you know how much weight you're over by?
