Well having played almost all of the TES games. im looking for an alternative. is there any other video game out there that is similar to the Elder scrolls? i heard Dragon Age and the Witcher were the closest thing to TES. i might buy Dragon Age 2 but im still a bit hesitant. can anyone give me some insight on it?

Dragon Age 2 was a good game. Good. Not great. Far from flawless but it was a fun game nonetheless. Dragon Age: Origins was better. I'd recommend DA:2.

As for the Witcher, that's not my type of game so I can't comment.

Guild Wars 2 if you do not mind MMOs. Have you tried the Fallout games?

Gothic is kinda similar (1 and 2 at least, I haven't played any others), though it's not as open world as TES because you are just too weak for some areas in the beginning. Dragon Age: Origins and The Witcher 1 are more linear and the combat isn't remotely TES-like.

I dont like MMOs.

I wanted to look into Fallout New Vegas a while back but completely forgot about it. might check it out this time.

With people berating TES as being Fallout with swords and sheilds, or vice versa with Fallout 3 having guns and armor I have no clue, I would say give FO3 and FONV a shot.

Haven't played too many RPGs along the lines of TES, and I think Star Ocean: The 2nd Story is probably the closest similar thing. *shrug*

I really liked the Witcher 2, but you should try Fallout 3 & New Vegas.

no offense guy but don't listen to this post as DA 2 was garbage unless you like being confined in small areas with little to do and there's maybe 10 of them in game that you go back and forth between. That's just the tip of the crap cake that is DA 2

Dragon Age is nothing like TES. Neither is The Witcher for that matter, but it's definitely worth playing anyway. If you buy Dragon Age, start with Origins - it's better than the sequel.

Both series are the polar opposites of TES - very little exploration, story-driven, with well-developed NPCs and noticable consequences of your actions (this applies more to The Witcher).

You could try Fallout (3 and NV), Gothic, Dragon's Dogma (only on consoles), maybe Two Worlds 2. Mass Effect isn't a bad choice if you play Dragon Age and decide you like it.
