Skyrim worth playing....?

Post » Fri May 17, 2013 1:17 am

I have never played any ES games because they were single player and they just weren't my thing. I've always said I would try it if they made on online game and here we are. Would you all think playing Skyrim on a PC would be worth some background on the game?

Skyrim is awesome, I remember my first impressions, it was a pleasure to adventure trough skyrim, I couldn't believe the insane amounts of content / quests / stuff.

It's worth playing regardless of TESO imho.

If you don't like singleplayer games you probably wont like Skyrim. But you can always just read what happened in the games or watch some video about them on youtube if you're really lazy

Considering ESO is taking quite a bit from Skyrim and Oblivion, it would be worth it to pick up Skyrim and play it. It will help you get used to the style of combat and also give you a feel for the Elder Scrolls series, in general.

they just weren't my thing.

Then don't play them.

If SP games isn't your thing, then i can almost asure you that you'd hate the TES experience. It can get lonely, no matter how immersed you are. Only play them if you want to experience the world before hand. Try checking out the shoddycasts lore series. It isn't the most detailed stuff, but it shows a bit of the "feel" of the games. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7pGJQV-jlzCPBUy9uAXQUXZ4UBaDLKS5

Hate to be that guy, but if your intention was to only play TESO then you have never played an Elder Scrolls game. I do not see why not to give it a try but regardless, try any TES game so you can get the feel and background of the series since TESO is not being developed by Bethesda :)

This!

I do not believe it is absolutely necessary to even have played one 'o the before titles, simply save your "gold" and play this upcoming game!

Agreed. The Lusty Argonian Maid, for example, is worth watching for the humor value alone.

Yeah this. Although I would say "give it a try", even for singleplayer games Skyrim stands out as something insanely good.

Well that's a hard question to answer. You say you don't tend to enjoy single player games. Is there any chance you would enjoy them if the game happened to be outstanding?

Because that's what Skyrim is. Its an absolutely outstanding single player experience. Its a game that gives you immense amounts of freedom to play the way you want to play in a vibrant, rich, living/breathing world with some of the most interesting fantasy lore ever made (be it books, movies, or games.)

I think playing Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim could probably add to your enjoyment of ESO. You'll probably understand the context of the world more and it will add to your immersion. Is it needed to enjoy ESO? Hopefully/probably not if the developers do a good job with the game.

I would say if you decide not to play the games then you could at least read up on some of the lore, watch some videos, and learn some generally things about the world and what has happened in other games. UESP.net is a great site for this. They have summaries of all the quests as well as summary articles on all the topics. You can go there to learn about the setting of the game, the gods, the general history, and much more.

I'd suggest reading through the http://www.gamesas.com/topic/15282-elder-scrolls-lore-faq/. Its really short (won't take up too much of your time), its well written and well organized, and it'll give you a baseline of knowledge that you should probably know to get the most out of ESO. If you start finding that you really like the stuff or if you just want to learn a little bit more, check out the http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1112211-how-to-become-a-lore-buff/ thread. Again, its broken down by subject so you can learn about what you're interested in and ignore other things.
