Lock Picking Mechanic

Post » Fri May 17, 2013 8:55 am

Anyone else bummed out that they are reusing the lock picking mechanic from Oblivion as seen in the http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ST9D_P0d_Oc video? That crap just drove me nuts! At least the one we have in skyrim made sense. I know this is just a minor "thing" but if they are really going to keep it in the game I'm going to avoid this mini game like the plague if it works remotely close to the one we had in Oblivion.

I would rather have the one from Skyrim, what about the rest of you?

I like that they are going back with the Oblivion one. Makes the lockpicking minigame much harder than the one in Skyrim. Oblivion's actually took skill to do, Skyrims you just had to be lucky that you found the right area to start off at.

Obviously I voted to keep it, given my post on the thread that I assume started this one. The difficulty was indeed off the chart, but once you got used to it (esp that telltale 'click'), you could have consistent success right from level 1.

I liked oblivions better, it wasn't a guessing game, you could do it without breaking any picks if your really good at it, skyrims lockpicking was too random, you would break picks for no reason because you don't know where to go, I like it the way it is they should keep it oblivion style.

Oblivion didn't have the worst lockpicking system in a game, but it certainly wasn't the best. I guess if they were going for challenge it was the right choice though.

I would rather there was not one at all. I use mods to "fix" this problem in Skyrim and the Fo3/Fnv games.

Skyrim style.

Unless the Lockpick skill was removed for ESO. Oblivion's system basically made the skill obsolete, having minimal impact on the difficulty of locks. At least with Skyrim, you could clearly tell that the better your skill (even without perks) the easier it was to unlock stuff.

I never got very adept at the Oblivion style lockpicking, but Skyrim and FO were eaaaasy. I ended frequently used a mod for Oblivion that let me "smash" chests and doors with large blunted 2h weapons, passing a 2H vs. locks skillcheck.

Exactly. The Skyrim LP was really easy, glad they are going with something more skillful.
