"Fast & Furious: Showdown the epitome of an insultingly terrible movie tie-in game. Send it to the impound lot and let’s never speak of it again."
Yikes!
Saw the review. It looks pretty horrible. It's unpolished, bad graphics, bad physics, glitchy, and generally feels dull. That's the vibes I get.
The only decent movie-to-game games that I've played were LOTR: The Two Towers and LOTR: Return of the King. The other LOTR games didn't follow the story of the movies/books, so they weren't 'movie games', but they were still awesome, too.
I thought that game and movie were fun. Neither took themselves too seriously.
The Iron Man 3 game for mobile phones is entertaining.

From the article linked in OP:
"It’s unintentionally poignant that an actual “hint” in the instruction booklet reads, “To remove disc, touch the eject button after quitting the game.” At least the manual seems self-aware."
What?
I'd seen some gameplay yesterday, it was so bad that I decided to look up the developers previous games, almost all of those are ports for the nintendo ds (like trackmania ds). Guess they where working above their ability (+ suffering from a strict deadline due to it being a movie tie-in).
There's also Spider-Man 2. It's a great game. I haven't played many movie games in years, but most weren't all that bad. It just depends on if you were looking for an amazing gaming experience or not. Most will svck if you are expecting too much. My favorite movie based game outside of Spider-Man 2 has to be The Lion King, though. The SNES version has http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmPXjDW9wmU and had really good gameplay. The Gameboy version is a bit spotty, but it also is pretty decent and pretty much the same game as the console versions. I still prefer the SNES version.
Maybe I just like that game so much because I'm a huge Lion King fan.
I'm probably the only person in the world that actually like the movie Last Action Hero, I just love the idea of getting absorbed in the movie or game you're watching .
See my post above. You are not. I too enjoyed it.
