good modern MMO suggestions?

Post » Wed May 29, 2013 1:33 am

So I have gotten to a point in my multiplayer career that I am kinda starting to lean toward MMO's, currently I using the free to play version of SW TOR, and I gave Defiance a shot over the weekend, and honestly I like both of them, are there any other good MMOS out there that are pretty modern that will let me play for a VERY long time with a lot to do????

Well.. FFXIV launches in August..but before that maybe try Guild Wars 2?

Rift is going free to play, Tera is Free to play, Neverwinter was just released, those are some options. I personally don't care for TOR or Defiance.

There is a bunch going on with EVE, but with Dust 514 finally going live, it has a completely new element for players to use, manage, and strategize with: other players battling for resources on the ground.

And we can only hope it won't be as bad as when it originally came out.

Most sources are saying it isn't a complete POS any longer. I don't know how trustworthy that is, but I pre ordered it to see

If you just started with multiplayer, get out of MMOs while you still can. The bane of multiplayer gaming.

At least when a 12 year old screams at you, you don't have to hear their voice like on consoles :tops:

lol, ok , well that fits me to the T, I like mmos, but i havent tried many!

Honestly, multiplayer games on console, fps multiplayer games in general are so bad now a days, i cant stand playing them anymore, its all about who can camp harder, it just gets worse as the years go on. The only good multiplayer game is team fortress 2.

I was wondering about that, is there no private voice chat or something in mmos?????

Also, I was wondering, does anyone know how the subscription system in SWTOR works???? If I get a year sub, do i get everything else in the shops for free? Or do i still have to do microtransactions??????

A lot of games comes with voice chat now, but I think they're poor. Instead guilds usually host their own voice chat server for their members

I normally don't reply to questions with quite so much punctuation, but I happen to like SWTOR. If you sub to SWTOR, you get "Cartel coins" each month which are used to purchase things from the ingame store. Something like 500-600 coins per month, depending on how long a sub you pay up for (starting with the first month's coins right away.) You also get bumped up to the highest tier of player, unlocking a bunch of player perks (ie, more character slots, faster vehicles/mounts, etc.) If you stop subbing, you still get to stay at a "preferred player" tier with slightly fewer perks than the subscriber tier (but a lot more than a standard free-to-play player.) Anything you purchase from the ingame store will also remain unlocked for your use. Basically, if you subbed for a year you would probably be able to buy everything you could conceivably want or need with the monthly Cartel coins you amass, including some of the premium features from the subscriber tier.

It pains me to say this, but, the best MMO out there is WoW. I've played quite a few, and only WoW kept my attention. Unfortunately, it's like internet crack. My second choice would have to be Guild Wars 2. It's a fun one that's far prettier with more interesting battle mechanics. (Interesting, not better) The third MMO I'd recommend is RIFT. When I played it, RIFT was like WoW for more skilled, more patient and more mature people. I had a good time, but the grind is pretty rough.

Even after Mists of Pandaria? I've heard today's WoW isn't as good as it used to be, according to some long-time players.
