I just watched the new video again and caught something i missed. When Paul was breifly talking about Cyrodiil he mention thousands of players will be fighting over keeps... and elder scrolls.
Long ago when Cyrodiil was first introduced and the set up was mention, there was talk about fighting over keeps and fighting over control of powerful artifacts that gave each alliance powers for holding, these were known as elder scrolls. The game was immediatly compared to DAOCs realm vs realm system. Since then we have heard alot about Cyrodiil and what goes on there but no mention of elder scrolls, artifacts or "relics". Some of us who follow Cyroddil closely and even myself thought maybe they were taken out or put off. Guid Wars 2 had problems with their version of it "Orbs" and even took it out of the game. i was thinking maybe that influenced Zenimax. But since he just said that in the video i think it safe to say it is being implemeted.
For those who dont know... In DAOC relics were the main goal of the PVP war. Each side had 2 relics and they were hard to obtain, they were close to their homeworld gates and were well protected. if an enemy side did manage to capture one, they took it to their homelands in the pvp zone and kept it in one of their keeps. Each enemy relic you held gave you a 10% bonus to melee (example Thors Hammer) or 10% to magic damage and healing power (example Merlins Staff) This was one of the hilights in DAOC being with an army that obtained a relic or even just defending yours. taking these were rare but when it happened, it caused mass panic, the map kinda became a giant capture the flag map until they were taken to safety.
GW2 tried this but removed them 3 months after game launch because of problems with the negative efefcts they were causing. I belive this mainly due to the poor map set up and how easy they were to take from unfortified keeps, and even the system of how you win the matches.
If TESO does it correctly like DAOC did i belive this combined with teh fight over the imperial city will give a very deep and involved feel for the alliance war and have people not wanting to ever leave the Cyrodiil zone
