Instanced World PVP.. a few ideas

Post » Thu May 30, 2013 9:43 am

We all know that world PVP at present will not be allowed.

From what I have witnessed here in these "unofficial" forums, there is a large number of users that support the idea of world PVP.

I admit that I do not know a great deal about this game's design or about game design in general, but I have extensively played through 8 major MMO's over the last 10 years.

Here is how I would do it:

1) Allow me to "Flag" myself for PVP, and then:

a. I will be instantly teleported from my factions instance to the "PVP" instance.

b. Once I enter the PVP instance there is a 5 minute cooldown before I can return to my faction's instance.

c. After leaving PVP combat, there is a 5 minute cooldown before I can return to my faction's instance.

2) Instance zone chat from the PVP instance.

a. This will prevent players that are flagged in the PVP instance from requesting aid or forming raiding parties to enter the PVP instance from their faction's instance.

b. When someone receives a tell or whisper from someone that is in the PVP instance they will receive a 2 minute cooldown before they can enter the PVP instance.

3) While entering a major city from the PVP instnace you will be immediately teleported back to your factions instance and will receive a 5 minute cooldown before you can re-enter the PVP instance.

a. You must be free from PVP combat for at least 5 minutes before you can enter a major city.

b. Groups or raids of more than two players will be not be allowed to zone to the PVP instance.

4) Questing in the PVP instance will mirror questing in your faction's instance.

a. You may form groups with players who are zoned into the PVP instance.

b. Dungeons and zones will mirror faction instances.

5) If you are a higher level than a zone you will not be able to enter the pvp instance of that zone.

a. That should eliminate higher level people going around and ganking lowbies.

These are some ideas that I believe Zenimax could use provide the community with the opportunity to have the best of both worlds.

Both options of questing and exploration in a PVP free world, or with the added anticipation and thrill of world PVP.

If anyone would like to add to or help revise any of these ideas your input would be greatly appreciated.

I am all for the option for a pvp shard on the mega server. :tops:

However, for some reason you will see people come out of the woodwork to tell you that you shoulg not have it even if it does not effect them what so ever.

The better question is what about Cyrodil does not meet the requirement of "World pvp". Because the only answer I have seen so far that does not fit is ganking, and that is a playstyle that should not be catered to.

When you say "shard" are you suggesting an instance where you can still have the option of not being in a pvp zone as I have suggested, or are you suggesting a completely seperate "pvp server" type of shard?

I would prefer the former.

Because there isn't one. They want the "thrill" of the gank, even though its been shown repeatedly to be an absolute minority of the playerbase that enjoys it, much less actually plays that way. Which is why they want pve scrubs to own.

I would like to be able to PVP while questing, I would like to "see" the enemy faction while questing.

The idea of "instancing" PVP would provide players who want to share that experience the ability to do so without having to wait until level 50 to do so.

You want to PvP while questing and see enemy factions then go to Cyrodiil, problem fixed.

And I'm tired of seeing these threads pop up every damn week. We are going to have PvP only in Cyrodiil and it's not going to change anytime soon.

I think such a thing would make Teso's pvp fail like Gw2's

As Leperchans said, that is all in Cyrodil. It opens up at level 10 for your ganking pleasure.

What's the point in Cyrodiil if you had open world pvp, the main threat to all factions is in Cyrodiil.

Yep as others already said, everything you want from Open World PvP is in Cyrodiil. As well as any thing that detracts from the AvA is a bad thing. So yes adding some option just to satisfy some players DOES effect everyone else because their experience in Cyrodiil AvA will be effected as well.

I agree, maybe ESO will not be the game for those folks, maybe Darkfall might be more of what they are looking for and not ESO../shrug

This debate is being beat to death about as much as the pay model /facepalm

If you actually read my OP you will see it is only an option.. and no I don't MMO to gank. Ganking would not be a big issue since players would be at or near the same appropriate level for the zone.

There is no enemy faction in your territory. You cant see them, because they aren't there.

True, I've always noticed that higher levels never come into the lower level zones to gank.

And to answer your question earlier: the way it hurts everyone, is if 100 people decide to "world pvp" outside of Cyrodiil, that's 100 less people in Cyrodiil- the zone will need a healthy population at all times for the end game to play out correctly.

I wasn't aware of this aspect of the game.

Like I said if you read the OP it is suggested that one may only "zone" into appropriate level PVP instances
