Goodbad of group roles

Post » Fri May 31, 2013 4:17 pm

Some recent articles have suggested that ESO leans more towards party roles like WoW. Where you have tanks/healers/dps roles. I don't think that is such a bad thing. In fact in WoW it gave me incentive to play in groups with my friends and others because I filled a needed role. I found in Guildwars 2 I couldn't identify as well as a tank or or healer which in turned convoluted how I wanted to build a character.

Do you prefer well defined group roles, no roles or somewhere between. How should Zenimax dungeon group dynamics be set up?

Can't respond to the poll.

I prefer to have some semblance of roles but I prefer them to be dynamic and flexible, not rigidly defined.

Group roles are good, the trinity system works but they should throw in some more other then DD/HEALER/TANK add - CONTROLER / BUFFER / DeBUFFER etc but going GW2 way and breaking the trinity system completly is crap.. everything turns in to a huge zerg -> Ress ->zerg -> Ress ->zerg -> Ress -> ye.. you get the point ^^

Yeah I will echo the same sentiment that I prefer there so be kind of resemblance of the trinity system in place, but I like it to be a bit more open. I like to see the Controller/Debuffer/Buffer roles be able to be viable options in the game. I'm planning on my mage to be somewhat of a Controller type by helping my group with keep mobs in CC, but also adding a bit of damage too.

I think roles are very, very important, but not in the extremely cookie cutter way most MMOs do it. I think ESO agrees to that. Personally, and I think most people would agree, I like having a job do to in a group and being able to be good at it. I like the flexibility ESO is promoting in both being able to change with role within your character, as well as the many ways you are able to accomplish each role/hybrid roles. Idk. I think they've talked about a pretty cool balance between having roles and a large amount of freedom.

I tend to agree.

A tank and healer seems necessary, then you are going to have your people who don't want to tank or heal.

I do however feel that because you have taken on a certain role for the time being you should not be limited to such a role, and you should be viable in all aspects.

You may not be the "best" at tanking or healing if its not your "specialty" but I do think everyone should be able to do things to a certain limited extent.

I also remember the days when I would park a barbarian in town just for buffing my team in Diablo, and feel a role for buffers would be nice, something like an over all support role, controls buffs/debuffs/snares/slows/etc..
