I tried to upgrade the RAM in my laptop but I think the moterboard finally died to heat. The laptop is qute old and although I tried various cooling solutions the poor design of the laptop prevented them from working effectivly. I now need a new laptop by thi scoming Wednesday.
Brand does not matter but it should be lightweight and have a decent battery. I would like at least an INtel i5 in it with a minimum 4GB of RAM. If I can run some games that is a plus but not needed, I mean stuff like Age of Empires 2 (the Steam HD one), The Pit, Guild Wars 2 would be nice but far from needed, and just other low specs games. I do NOT need to it run any games so going overboard on the GPU is not needed.
It will be for personal use but will definately be needing it to handle virtual machines, hence the RAM requirement, and I will be installing Windows 7 Pro 64 bit on the machine.
I did have this in the tech thread but it was before my actual laptop died so I am hoping this post helps expedite the process. The laptop I was given from work, which is for work use only to me even if others do not see it like that, is not too bad. It is a Lenovo T430s upgraded to 8GB of RAM. I am considering that model but it does need to arrive by Wednesday. I am not opposed to buying from a store if I absolutely must, but NewEgg would be my first choice with Amazon a close second. Manufacturer sites are fine so long as I do not need an account to purchase the unit.
Any suggestions welcome though I know unlike desktops selection is limited and specs are similar across the board. But perhaps someone knows of a sale going on or a system with a good value.
