Your favourite book?

Post » Sun Jun 02, 2013 10:29 pm

I just finished my favourite book yesterday, and have read about 100 pages of the next. My favourite book is 'Magician' by Raymond E. Feist. I love the story and the characters so much, that it did sadden me to finish the book. That said, I have over ten more to read from the same author in the same universe, so I'm set for a while. :)

So, what are yours?

Hm, probably The Lords of Discipline. I connected with it very well and it was a good story.

The Amber Chronicles.

Got my hands on a copy of the omnibus that contained all 10 novels regarding it... too bad it was a library book, I think. Or I misplaced it somewhere.

I may have hated the way it was written but I still The Hobbit, the general story is fine I just didn't like getting pulled out of the story and reading a characters background or life story. If the book would have concentrated more on the adventures of Bilbo Baggins (and it does to a degree) and not steer off track and talk about something else, not only would the book be shorter but more simple to read. The Hobbit just has a love/hate thing for me.

I like Lord of the Rings. It's hard for me to find a well written fantasy (I'm not into game of thrones)

Also, to a lesser extent the bible for its interesting writing and imagery (I myself am not religious, but I like the stories and the style)

The Secret Life of Bees.

I read it for my group in an English class at the college. From what I have seen (people, critics) it was supposedly one of those "mother-daughter" books that sends girls a message but I did not find it that girly at all. I really wanted to watch the movie after I read the book, but cannot find it yet on TV or the internet. It has a pretty decent cast, too.

That's the one about the black girl in Georgia moving in with some other family or something right?

At times it felt a bit girly, like lesson learning, and at other times it wasn't even close, like the police station part, that was pretty mature.

I dunno about favorite, but I just read The Passage and The Twelve by Justin Cronin.
I really dig them a lot. The writing style changes somewhat depending on which character is being focused on, among other things. Good world-building, characters and things that tie together in the further you get into the story. The story takes place (so far) of a period of about a hundred years. They aren't really fantasy or scifi, but somewhere in between, i guess- with a dash of spirituality thrown in the mix.

Ya, that's the one. And yes, it had its girly parts but it was during when she had that crush with that one dude and when she talks to the big sister of the black family for advice and whatnot.

That reminds me, I'm looking for a decent fantasy book with a strong female lead if anyone has suggestions :tops:

It's better than where it was when I was a child for selection, but not fantastic

Hmm, not sure if there is a such thing as 'favorite' book for me, but the series that I have enjoyed the most recently has been the Sandman Slim books.

It would either be Le Morte De Arthur or To Kill A Mockingbird. I've read them both dozens of times.

I haven't read much, but it's always pretty much been the Harry Potter series. I started when I was young and I can remember waiting anxiously for the next book to come out. No other series/book has really captured me in the same way.

I don't have a favorite book, but I really enjoyed the Harry Potter series.. the Inheritance Cycle kept me satiated for a bit after finishing Harry Potter, but Poalini used too much of his inspiration in writing names of places/parts of the story.

I've read several of Dean Koontz as well, and the one I liked the most was The Good Guy.. haven't read one of his in a while though.

I've been looking for another fantasy to read, but none interest me anymore and I almost always leave a bookstore empty-handed. I have started writing the basics of my own fantasy though, and I'm building it from stories I'm writing per the advice of a book I recently bought.. I have one story written and am working on another one now so I'm hoping to get somewhere with it.

Joe Abercrombie's Best Served Cold was probably the best fantasy book witha female lead that I have read. I highly reccomend it.

His books are low fantasy, so don't expect a bunch of elves prancing and magic vomitted everywhere.

Either "All the Pretty Horses" or "Blood Meridian" both by Cormac McCarthy.

Love em both.

I love Stephen King's writing even if I hate his stories. That might not make sense. :P
