Does This Mean ESO Will Not Be Subscription Based?

Post » Tue Jun 11, 2013 8:40 pm

With the recent announcement that ESO is coming to console is it still possible that the game will be subscription based? It kind of seems unlikely now since I don't see it happening on a console.
Also in that German interview it was announced there was going to be a cash shop in the game.

I'm not really sure if I am happy about this because I like money, but so far no F2P or B2P MMO has impressed me. From the polls I have read it looks like majority of these forums would prefer P2P, so what is everyone's thoughts on this?

This neither confirms nor denies what type of payment system this could be. There are F2P, B2P, and P2P MMOs for consoles.

"I am guessing it will still be subscription based"

It doesn't confirm or deny anything but P2P is much less likely now.

Not really. FF MMO was P2P and I believe the new remake is going to be P2P and it's on the PS4. So again, it doesn't swing one way or the other.

No there probably won't be any subs now that they have revealed that ESO will be on consoles. Also, matt frior talked about "DLC's" which kinda hints to a B2P game with an cash shop.

I'll bet it's going to be b2p now that they have console market to cater too.

buy to play with payment based future content is the most steady and reliable. especially with the move to consoles that require subscriptions to their platforms online premium serves to play with others online. and it fits the design model of making it a largely single player affair for the campaign.

Id prefer sub myself, just to get better community, only players who like the game play it, this game is gonna get enough players whatever they do, even go as sub-based, thats if they focus 100% on fast queues/balance/ or make too big gap between players, so they can play together, and dont [censored] it up. But I think also this genre shifted to hydrib/B2P model already.

ps4 and xbox1 will charge people to play online.

"PS4 multiplayer online access requires PSN account & PS Plus subscription."

http://kotaku.com/ps4-video-says-playstation-plus-is-mandatory-for-online-512482325

so if anything it makes the payment model lean more towards a sub.

I doubt at this point it will be Sub. B2P more than likely at this point. xbox live and PSN are already going to cost money to play online, I doubt they would get the results they want if they make players pay another 15 or so dollars on top of it. Just my guess but it is a perfectly reasonable argument.

Yeah, this. Even FFXI still has a subscription fee and you need a PC, 360 or PS2 to play it. The real question is who cares now, they're going to ruin the game regardless of the pay model if they let Sony and MS meddle with the game.
