Where I live we call it a house spider.

The odd thing is, none of the other spider-like creatures get such a reaction from me. I'm totally fine with lobsters, I've let pet scorpions crawl over my hand, crabs are funny.

Of course, then there is the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solifugae. Not really a spider but it looks like a mega one, so, that one does terrify me.
