Can someone explain Animal Crossing?

Post » Tue Jun 18, 2013 10:52 am

I am coming to the end of Monster Hunter (into the penultimate rank of the Tavern and almost completed the Village) and I am looking for a 3DS game to play soon. So far, I am thinking about getting either Luigi's Mansion 2 or Fire Emblem Awakening, but I have seen another 3DS game that has been released lately; Animal Crossing.

I have seen many good things being said about Animal Crossing, but I am completely confused by it. From what I have seen in videos, it is pretty much a collection game, but I have heard people compare it to Farmville, which sounds like a really bad thing.

I also noticed that you can find Monster Hunter and Pokemon items in there, which is quite interesting.

Can someone explain it to me? I know there is no combat (or even goals. The only goal I have seen in it is to pay off a Loan Shark Raccoon), but I don't really know how it is so appealing.

Even though the series confuses me, I am happy to see it getting a character for SSB4

I'm thinking about getting this game sometime soon, too. I don't understand it, either. I'm not sure what the goal of the game is, nor how much fun I'll have with it.

Probably appeals to those who are either completionist or after mindless achievement like collecting... Hidden games were in the gamecube version

You make a house, and then do things to pay off the loan in order to make it bigger and add more things to display.

there isn't one really... lol

you just 'live your life'.. that's all there is to it. I find it quite fun from time to time... but then you get obsessed with checking the shop everyday and shaking all the trees and then you get depressed when you miss a day and realise you need to set back the internal clock to do 2 days in 1 day today just so you get all the items in case you miss the one that you NEED FOR YOUR HOUSE HGNEUGHJRGHHWBAH

and that's kind've what it's about.

Animal Crossing is kind of a social simulator and a life simulator. It's not a serious one of either type of simulator, either. If you enjoy The Sims, this is basically kind of like that series, only it has no real goals. The Sims does have very obvious goals. It's a pretty relaxing game, so that is a big part of the appeal. It's also surprisingly entertaining and has plenty of amusing and funny moments.

I used to play Wild World a ton, but got bored. It was a great happy, relaxing game, though. You can run around beating neighbors with an axe(they don't take any damage. They just get angry) for an hour if you want. You could fish all day. Maybe pick flowers and plant trees all day. The lack of actual goals can be quite relaxing.

That sounds fun. I think I will try it now. It's games like this that make post-League Pokémon so fun. :)

It's a life sim that runs on a real time clock. It's not the kind of game that you can play all day, but rather something that you play a little bit every day.

You collect furniture to decorate your house, socialize with the villagers (who often have tasks for you that reward you with more furniture), collect bugs, fish and fossils to sell for money or fill your museum, etc. The game has holidays and events that correspond with holidays in real life, and you get rare stuff from those. And in the new game for the 3DS you play as the mayor of the town rather than just a villager, so you can build projects to improve the entire town.

It's not a game for everyone, if you need set goals then you probably won't like it, but it's one of my favorite Nintendo franchises.

Would I be morally obligated to play every day? Because I'm sure I'd drop off from the game eventually, not because it's a bad game, but because there's other games I want to play.

Nah. You'll just have more weeds to pick when you get back, and maybe a few cockroaches in your house, depending on how long it's been.

Okay, good. I'm gonna get this when I can. :)

Thanks for answering my questions! I don't play that much Nintendo franchises, and I've been looking to expand my 3DS and Gamecube collections for some time. :D

The 3DS plays DS games, so you can also play Animal Crossing Wild World on it. Wild World was for the DS.

Okay, though I have a ton of DS games already. I actually like the backwards compatibility of the 3DS. Pokémon games never felt better. :)

I have been obsessed with The Sims at younger ages and don't understand this game. My friend played it for years and knows everything about it; he lent me the GameCube version which I played for a few days. I call it a "debt simulator." I have a decently sized student loan I'm paying off, and at the time, I was paying down two credit cards that my mom maxed out for me. I don't need debt in a game or to have mounds of it.

So we dug the [censored] out of the village, just to annoy my friend, haha.

There's no point in getting Wild World anymore, New Leaf is an improvement in every way.
