Surround speakers for TV

Post » Fri Jun 21, 2013 2:37 am

I'm currently looking into surround speakers for my telly. I already have a 3D blueray player so all of the Home Cinema Systems on offer seem like a waste of money, spending cash on an inbuilt blueray player that I don't need.

So I'm considering buying the pieces separately: Amplifier, speakers and, if I can figure it out and come across a pair without noticeable audio degradation, a wireless box for the rear speakers.

So I imagine that the first question I have would be, does anybody have any recommendations?

I have a bit if money to spend, but nothing incredible. At the moment I have looked at the Sony SDRDN1020 and SDRDH820 as possible amps. They both seem amazing and have the perfect I puts and outputs. There is a significant price difference, so I am curious as to whether you think it worth the price, taking into account that my maximum budget for the lot will be around the £700 mark. I can probably push it up if necessary. If I can get a decent total system for cheaper, around £300-£400, all the better. I like the Sony amp not only for the excellent reviews on its audio abilities, but because it has 2 optical inputs, 4 hdmi inputs, hdmi output and 7.1 speaker option. This would allow me to connect an Xbox, blueray player and sky in several combinations with an output to the TV, making switching between them all as simple as using the remote control, and all, of them using a good connection method. The trouble with these Home Cinema Systems is that I can't get a decent idea of what's sitting round the back without actually seeing them I the "flesh", making me not too keen on buying them online.

Next.. Speakers. I am s used the doing all of my shopping on Amazon that, whenever doesn't come up with an answer, I don't know where to turn! Do you have any recommendations for a decent set of 5.1 or 7.1 speakers that would fit nicely with any suggested amp and come within budget? Amazon doesn't seem to do speakers for TVs unless they are connected to a home cinema system.

Finally I need to keep in mind that I may need another £100 or so for a rear wireless box. Do you have experience with these? How do they compare with wired speaker? Is there much interference?

Any tips, advice, recommendations would be soooooo very much appreciated. I'm not averse to getting an integrated system if it does the job, so long as it has the decent input options like that Sony amp. Thanks for any help you can give me. I've been researching these for quite a bit now and don't feel I know enough about them to make any sort of decision.
