So it started off with the basic Storyline. Giant magical explosion rocks world, and Molag Bal is beginning to move Tamriel to Cold Harbor.
Mind Melt #1
But Shouldn't there be a High King of Cyrodil... ya know, the Cyrodillic Empire, and don't they have the Amulet of Kings? How then can Oblivion Gates open on Tamriel?
Answer: - I thought I had the answer and then I find an article stating that "...As a sign of this vow, Akatosh lit the Dragonfires in the center of White Gold Tower. Akatosh is identified with the Dragon, a symbol which plays a prominent role in the Cyrodiilic Empire. A few centuries later, King Reman I, the hero who defeated the Akaviri Invasion, would formalize the process of lighting the Dragonfires and passing the Amulet as the rites used to crown a new Emperor; even during the worst periods of Cyrodiil's history, the fires remained lit and kept Tamriel safe, until the end of the Third Era, marked by the assassination of Emperor Uriel Septim VII and all known heirs to the throne."
...Even during the Worst periods of Cyrodiil's history, the fires remained lit and kept Tamriel safe...
Mind you that was pulled from a Wiki... and we all know how wiki's can be trusted... ><;
But it's the heart of the problem I've been going through. I'm finding mixed material on things and it ALL revolves around St. Alessia, The Amulet of Kings, Akatosh's promise to seal shut the gates of Oblivion from Aedra and Daedra a like.
Akatosh's Promise is where we should really be looking in the first place. Because I think that's where the issue may come from first. Reman Cyrodil the first is the next noted person, after Alessia, to be wearing the Amulet of Kings. He also set about the customs and rituals that would be used for the next Coronation and the re-lighting of the Fires.
All fine and dandy, but this means, or eludes to the fact that there had to be other kings/queens before him. The time gap between St. Alessia and King Reman I is nearly 2,000 years!
The Reman Dynasty is ended with the death of Savirien-Chorak, and so ends the royal bloodline of St. Alessia. This takes place in 2E 430. Nearly 153 years before the events of ESO. So far so good...
Until we think about the Amulet of Kings.
If we are to presume that since St. Alessia lived so long ago that nearly everyone has in some way shape or form, some connection to her through illegitimate children, or children who did not serve time on the throne, but served the Throne else-where. This is proven to be true when you look forward in time to Tiber Septim, more commonly known as General Talos. Talos has a vision about the Amulet of Kings having been buried with Emporer Reman Cyrodil the III, and supposedly finds it buried there.
But then How can the Dragonfires have been lit all this time if:
1. The Amulet of Kings was buried with Emporer Reman the III.
2. How can Tamriel have always been "safe" even until the end of Third Era if No child of Alessia has been wearing the Amulet of Kings for roughly 800 years?
3. General Talos, has to have been a child of Alessia in order for him and all of his heirs to have been able to wear it. So why is there not more Heirs available? You would think that over 3,000 years of living and breeding that there would be more than just Talos and his heirs to wear the Amulet.
And then there's still the issue with Molag Bal being able to open Oblivion Gates on Tamriel when supposedly the fires are still lit...
I dunno... My head is hurting from all this research and mis-direction and misunderstanding...
Can someone please un-hurt my head... And don't get me started on the story about Emporer Reman the I being born with the Amulet of Kings in his Forehead. Because that just throws 2,000 years of Daedra-free "peace" out the window too...
So, is the story of The Amulet of Kings being buried with King Reman the III true or not?
Are the Dragonfires lit in the imperial City?
Is Akatosh holding back the gates of Oblivion?
Why has it taken 583 years since the Death of Reman the III for any Daedra to step forth to the world?
If Molag Bal physically manifests in the flesh on the world... doesn't that null and void the whole Amulet of Kings ordeal? Or did I misunderstand something at the end of the Oblivion Crisis when Mehrunes Dagon physically manifested himself in Tamriel and for some odd reason, Martin Septim couldn't just re-light the fires, but instead destroyed the Amulet itself and sent Mehrunes Dagon back to Oblivion.
...
and If that does hold true.... Why didn't Mehrunes Dagon just come forth from the beginning, since Molag Bal did it first? This assumes and jumps to the conclusion that Molag Bal does indeed manifest himself on Tamriel.
Now let's assume that the Amulet of Kings was not buried with Reman the III. Lets assume that it was in fact being worn by the Kings/Queens of the Western Cyrodillic Empire. You know, the Empire that General Talos served for, and eventually took over as his own, in the name of his beloved Emporer... So this would mean that an entire line of Alessia's children were alive and wearing the Amulet. Thus they had to have lit the fires....This would mean that someone was wearing the Amulet the entire time.... thus voiding out Molag Bal's intervention....
(psst BTW, Spoiler alert. Ebonheart Pact eventually wins the war. When Tiber Septim take the throne!)
