How do you feel about Sony and the Ps4

Post » Wed Jun 26, 2013 6:21 am

I seen a lot Xbox threads and seen the many informative posts about Microsoft and some of Sony history which I wasn't aware of at the slightest, so I made this thread to see how people feel about the Ps4. I also added to the thread title to see how people feel about Sony as a company to add more to the discussion.

Well, Sony is Sony. No different than most any other company trying to make a profit. But it's personal for me as I'm one of their rootkit victims. That aside, I like what I see of the PS4 so far. The hardware looks great. The games look great. No eyeball staring back at me. No unwanted extras running up the cost. Everything a gaming machine should be.

Ya just had to rootkit me, didn't ya Sony?

Can you please explain to me about this rootkit situation? I'm quite curious to know what Sony did.

Wiki has details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_BMG_copy_protection_rootkit_scandal

Basically, if you played a Sony BMG audio CD in your Windows 95, 98, ME computer you got kitted. To get rid of it you formatted.

Edit: I should say that nearly everyone who played one in XP got rooted too, because nearly everyone runs XP with admin privileges.

Well, I'm quite fond of Sony and have been for a very long time. I love their PS2 and PS3 (Never owned a Playstation) and when the price drops I'm hoping to get a PS4.

Looks like I'm the 1% that's disappointed at Microsoft----for now lol  . Yeah I'll be getting the PS4 mainly because I need a Blu-Ray player and Sony has never let me down before. The best part of having my father work at Wal-Marts is that he can put a system back for me (although for a short time) and I can just either give him my money to buy it or simply go up there and buy it out right, which is what we basically have planed.

It exists. I have no opinions until the systems are actually out. That is all. *drop mic*

Sony also made SecuROM. Luckily, not every version of SecuROM is like what Spore had. Still, I can't help but fear the thing a bit. Then I realized how silly it was getting to fear every version of the thing when I can't fully avoid it. A lot of companies were putting invasive DRM in their music CDs, though. Luckily, I'm mainly into music that just happens to not be very mainstream, so I doubt any companies would care enough to put DRM on a Gorguts CD.

Pretty sure only a fairly small amount of the CDs being released at that time even had the DRM, too. Of course, I may be wrong. I was freaked out over if I should put in Ozzy Osbourne's Bark At the Moon in my computer due to fear that there was DRM on it. Turns out, it was barking at a moon. Nothing else.

I have liked Sony's systems since I was a little kid. They were the first systems I actively bought games for. I bought games from rental stores for my Genesis and NES, but that was only because no one was renting those anymore. I had my parents buy me PS1 games and then got a PS2 with Sly Cooper. Loved every minute of it. I saw the Kingdom Hearts https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-g-brwCvQU and that pretty much told me I made the right choice to ask for a PS2 that year. In fact, I was obsessed with that one commercial when I was younger because of Cerberus being in it.

So, I've grown up playing Sony systems. I never have had a Sony handheld system since I was too accident prone when the PSP was new, so I stuck with simply getting Nintendo handhelds. Sony's systems have usually had the games I liked as far as consoles go, though. They have a good selection and the Japanese stuff is pretty varied. That is a big thing for me, so I was happy with my PS3. Sure, it got the worst versions of mutli-platform games, but I liked the controller and was happy with the game selection.

Not buying any of the next gen systems until maybe two years after their release, though. I just don't see a need to. Probably will get a PS4 since it is more likely to have the games I like, though. I buy systems based on the games their have. If none of the games interest me, I don't care about it. I like some of what the 360 had, but the library of games it had were not of my interest and often had PC versions if they were considered 360 exclusives. Same thing happened with the original Xbox, too.

I like! :D

I don't even remember what CD got me, I may not have even known. Just remember having to decide leave it or format. :stare: But it's history, not the future. Microsoft with its Kinect :ninja: is leaving me little choice but to get over it and to Sony's credit, they are dangling a nice carrot with their PS4. :icecream: lol

I had a PS1 and 2. Liked them both a lot. Absolutely loved Jak 2 and the pre-skylanders Spryo games. Skipped 3 though. Never even played on one. Maybe I've punished Sony enough! lol

I've had a Sony console since 2002, but playing on them since the late 90's. I enjoy their products and haven't been disappointed since. Still, I won't buy a console on launch day, I would rather wait a couple models (about 6-8 months) until I actually purchase it. That way they got the initial hardware fixes in place already, initial software updates already in place, and all that so I don't have to be an initial product tester on the market. Nothing against Sony, I'm wary of new things like this. When the PS3 launched, Sony wasn't without their own little failure rate that was pretty high (but no where near as high as the 360's). So wait a couple model generations and get that one is what I prefer to do.

If I don't upgrade my PC when ESO gets launched, I'm getting a PS4 for it.

Funnily enough, my PS2 and PS3 were both launch consoles that I got and they lasted me till I broke em through one foolish move or another. I believe I didn't package my PS2 correctly when I was like 14-15 or something and it didn't work when I took it out of my luggage. If I travel I carry my console in my bag now. Worked out because my PS3 was backwards compatible.

My PS3 lasted like 5-6 years from launch till I let my friend borrow it while I was away for school. Came back and it no longer functioned. At least he paid me back for it in some way.

I would actually be more confident with a launch PS4 than a midlife Xbox One lol.

I won't get a PS4 at launch. I'll wait until two of my three most anticipated games are released: Witcher 3, InFamous Second Son, and Destiny. I have really grown to like indie games as much or more than major titles, so I am pleased to see Sony constantly trying to bring indie devs to the forefront. I'm just as excited for Jonathan Blow's The Witness and Supergiant Games' Transistor as I am for those three titles mentioned above.

Really interested to see what the first party studios come up with. Supposedly, there are 20 first/second party games due in the first year of the PS4, and they've only shown..... 5. Admittedly, Knack and Driveclub look like garbage, but KZ looks to be a solid entry and InFamous and The Order are looking mighty fine. I have no interest in any exclusives on Xbox One or WiiU, and both consoles have pretty much shown us everything they've got.

I've hated my experience with the 360. Selling it for a PS3 was a proud move of mine.
