Blood Runs Cold

Is there anything that just makes your blood run cold down your spine? Sounds, thoughts, sights, anything at all?

For me it's a typical one for once: high-pitched sounds. When I say this, I mean metal-scraping-against-metal kind of sounds. Fingernails on a chalkboard, scraping of plates, loud high-pitched sounds of any kind makes me shiver. Even thinking about the sounds causes my blood to run cold.

Usually photos of dead bodies, especially when I can see the face. Distorted (whether by means of photo manipulation or foul-play means) faces, as well. And hearing news of something I was fearing, like a pet or family member having died or had something terrible happen to them.

Unless we're thinking about cringing, in which case, it'd be accidentally scratching my teeth together when chewing something, especially if it's acidic and has worn down some of my enamel. Then there's hooking two fingernails together when opening something and then pulling. And then among others, there's fingernails on an old car with a worn down topcoat.

I haven't had that feeling in a long, LONG time. There have only been a few things that made me feel that way.

1. Dark morning before planes hit the world trade centers on Sept. 11th. I'll never forget looking out the classroom window, at 7:30 am est, and seeing those dark clouds towards the west. You just feel something bad is going to happen, deep down in your gut.

2. My dog had to be put to sleep on Xmas eve. When the vet told me that Chance more than likely had cancer, I was heart broken and felt my blood run cold.

3. Woke up with a panic attack. My heart was racing at close to 150bpm, maybe 160bpm, and it refused to calm down for nearly 5hrs. Thankfully my cardiologist said everything looked good on the EKG.

Blood running cold? Erm... No? Never heard that expression before, but what does send me shivers down my spine is touching a icecream stick with my tounge. Something about that wood just makes me shiver in discomfort.

Heart burns afire

But the blood runs cold

Take a gamble with fate

'Cause my luck won't hold...

The thought of someone biting plaster or stone, things scraping against stone.

Dry skin or nails touching silk... ...oh god.
