My Thoughts On Dishonored.

I felt it was a pretty good game. It has a very compelling story, and an interesting chaos system. I just feel that for the next game if it is so, should change a few things that really, in my view, hindered the game for me from being a great game.

  1. It has a very short campaign. This is something that should be addressed.
  2. I feel that sneaking should be easier than fighting. It is a stealth game. There should have been more stealthy abilities rather than combat abilities. I feel the roles should be reversed. Stealth should be easy, Combat should be hard.
  3. The story did not fit the game play. There was sooo much to this games story, so much brand new lore, character histories, etc. The problem was this was a mission based game. If it was more free roam, the story would fit the game play a bit more. I would have loved to walk around the city while not on missions to explore.
  4. Customization is key. The game advertises how epic you look..... you never really get to see how epic you look. Also upgrades are pretty meh you hardly notice it out side of carry capacity. I would have loved to have had weapon choices. Instead I get, a sword, a cross bow, a pistol, and a few spells.
  5. Better characters. Other than Corvo, Emily, and Mr. Boatman whom I adore, I did not really care about ANY of the characters.... they were all pretty bland. We even have a DLC based on one character you never really care about.

These are just my thoughts and opinions. Lets discuss!

Disagree with 1, spent 20 hours on my first play threw, and in total 60 hours. And I disagree with 5, Daud was by far the most interesting character in the entire game, and I did care about him especially in knife of Dunwall. You have to use the heart, read notes and other details in the world about the characters to truly appreciate them.

And 2, Sneaking is hard for a reason, it's sneaking. Try playing MGS, or another sneaking game to see that sneaking is always hard in sneaking games.

4. Disagree. Those "spells" are all uniqe and set the tone of game play. They directly affect your play style.

A absolutely adore the game so I must disagree with some of the criticism. :D

1. It took me about 30 hours to explore everthing on my first run. Now my Steam shows 150 hrs, but I tend to keep the game active but minimized, so I do not know what is the playing time exactly.

2. Actually both are pretty easy when you adjust, but Dishonored is more about how you chose to play it, not being hard. I, personally, felt that fighting was a bit more difficult than stealth, especially on the hardest difficulty and when you create objectives for yourself. (The hardest battle for me was during the Lady Boyle's party, when I wanted to kill every guard spectacularly in the main hall, but not to harm civillians).

3. The narrative is not typical - here I agree. Much is hidden in the books, audiographs ang the Heart's comments, even more must be guessed.

4. You can't see your character, but you become powerful as hell. I can't understand how summoning swarms of plague rats to eat your enemies alive doesn't feel rewarding.

5. I cared about Daud! A lot.

1. Depends on how you play the game; it took me about 15-18 hours to finish on the first run playing stealthy and non-lethally.

2. Strange, I find sneaking to be easier than fighting.

3. I agree with this, but only if the levels were more akin to Thief rather than being outright open-world. There are inherent problems with open-world games, as much as others would argue otherwise.

4. More equipment choices? Yes. Get to see how awesome you look? Who cares?

5. Agreed. I feel many characters in Dishonored are well-conceived but poorly developed.
