True to Elder Scrolls

Post » Mon Jul 01, 2013 2:31 am

So I was thinking a bit earlier, and it came to me, this game will fail IF they don't make it Elder Scrolls first. If we dont see the main things that made us Love Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, etc, it WILL be a disappointment. Take the time to think about why you love Elder Scrolls, then think even harder at if they are putting what YOU love into this MMO.

So far, its missing a lot of what I love about Elder Scrolls.

Here are some main things that its missing from what I like about Elder Scrolls. (this is a personal list)

-Customization, the Armor tiers look very bland , by tiers I mean Light, medium, and heavy. We all know Orc blacksmiths are among the best in the world, but why is there an Orcish Light or Medium armor? Who ever heard of an Orc from lore that equipped himself with anything but heavy plate? Sure you can be what you want, and do whatever, but if an Orc is going to wear Medium Armor, It should be Leather, fur armor, Studded etc, not Orcish Leather.

TL;DR, Categorizing the armor in just 3 main specialties (Heavy, medium, and light) is Idiotic, and they should reformat it to be true to the Elder Scrolls Titles, not MMO.

-Texture and Mod customizing, as far as we know, we can only customize the UI. WOW!!! the Ui? That's so amazing, it reminds me of World of Warcraft! This leaves out a huge part of the community of Elder Scrolls, the Modding Community. Modders will be very disappointed if they arn't able to create new textures and have the game look how they want it. This is a new Generation MMO, they have the technology to let people customize how their game looks, they shouldn't limit people to Low texture (which is what they will be from the Screenshots i've seen) graphics. Or even limit people in general. We should be free to do what we want.

-Weight Behind Attacks, this is a huge thing I love about Elder Scrolls, when you hit someone with a fire ball, or a 2 handed mace, you felt it. From the videos released and things we know and have seen so far, the combat weight svcks. Terribly. This is something that will make/break immersion, and in an Elder Scrolls game, Immersion is everything, breaking it is like a buzz kill.

-Categorizing Classes into 4 lame Titles, Dragon Knight, Sorcerer, Templar, and Nightblade, really? like...Really? Why is Nightblade and Sorcerer the only retro classes from previous Elder Scrolls Titles? Why can't you choose something that people are familiar with from Oblivion? Dragon Knight? Lol so corny, and when people say "DK" I think of Death Knight from WoW whats the point of being a Dragon Knight if you can't use shouts? Like?. Templar? Reminds me of Path of Exile. Stick to Elder Scrolls ZeniMax, please, don't stray off and gank other titles from Different games.

These are just a few fails in my book, yes its a bit negative, but a review is a review, please feel free to list things that the game currently doesn't have that you want in it.

Being an MMO you simply can't have the level of modding you have in a single player game. Besides modding only exists in the PC version, the game will be on consoles as well like past ES games.

Classes have always been apart of TES. Skyrim went away from them but past ES games did have classes. Classes are very much open like they have been in past ES games. Besides sounds like your only issue is with the names.

Honestly though i don't really see a point to this thread, you've been following the game for awhile and should know how its being made. Just seems like your weekly negative [censored] and moan session that you think is so important we all must hear it over and over again.

Wish granted. :icecream:

By having all armors be light medium and heavy and letting anyone make any race armor, that gives more customization.

-Texture and Mod customizing, as far as we know, we can only customize the UI.

That is to keep the game balanced. You don't want 100's of uber mods letting everyone cheat.

-Weight Behind Attacks, this is a huge thing I love about Elder Scrolls, when you hit someone with a fire ball, or a 2 handed mace, you felt it.

Wish granted.

They are offering 4 basic classes. Fighter, thief, mage, cleric

Also, these are a base of three skill trees. You get many more....

Skill trees for one character:

Race 1

Class 3

Weapons 6

Mage school 1

Fighter school 1

Faction tree 1

PvP tree 3

Armors 3

Emperor 1

Vamp/were 1

More to come!! :tops:

1. No comment.

2. I'm no expert on either modding or MMOs, but I'm not sure how well modding would work in an MMO.

3. In my opinion, all of TES games did a terrible job of showing the weight behind attacks, I see no reason why this would be different.

4. Agreed.

(The numbers in the quote were added by me.)

Frak has it down, good post! :tops:

As for your need of mods in a MMO, can you even imagine the chaos? That will never happen IMHO. Sure, they are allowing UI mods but that only effects you and not the game play as well as others around you.

To add to Frak's comment on your opinion of the "lame" classes: They are more templates than classes IIRC. Heck, Skyrim didn't even have classes.

Your complaint about no weight in combat is already been addressed by ZeniMax. In a recent interview they said enemies now glance in directions that they were hit and that your screen shakes when you are hit.

So instead of adding the physics of being hit harder they just shake the screen a bit? lol smh.

Thank you for the information on a few of my concerns! :P Really cool to see they are looking into some of them.

Have you played any of the Elder Scrolls games? None of them ever felt like I was getting hit hard.

Plus ZeniMax ssid they are still working on the combat to feel better. So they make the combat feel better and your still upset.

Why can't this game that isn't out yet work better! Son of a [censored] ass!

Your first thing about customization is funny, because your suggestion actually limits customization. I think you wanted to just make it more rigid like the older games, but that would quite frankly svck the big one in an MMO. That's the main thing here, you need to remember that this isn't just another TES game, but an MMO. Some things have to be changed a little bit, and adapting armor types to be used by more than just one type is one of them.

Second part, UI modding will happen in the game, but that's it. You just can't have full blown modding in an MMO. People can't stop themselves from making god items in a singleplayer game, what do you think they would do in a game where you're directly or indirectly competing with other people?

Third. See my first [censored] comment of this post, and then realize that the game isn't done yet, and is in fact FAR from done since we won't even be able to play it until the middle of next year sometime.

Fourth. You must have run out of things to cry about it with this one. Templar is basically Crusader class from the past games, Dragon Knight..I'll give you, I'm not a fan of the name, but its basically a spell sword type class. Its a melee class with abilities that imitate dragons and [censored]. Just deal with it and stop looking for reasons to complain.

They're trying something new by adding all this stuff. Classes are only a starting point and have no major impact in gameplay, and the new armour can open up a wide range of possibilitys. So technically these changes can be positives.

Its called "Illusion of choice" , it gives you the illusion that there is more choices but there really isn't.

Blizzard is a big fan of Illusion of choice, I just hope Zeni doesn't go down this path.

How is it an illusion of choice, exactly? Orcish armor template for heavy armor only vs. an orcish armor template for all armor types?

I know Fireball blasts the whole room to hell. That is one of the reasons I hate playing a mage in Skyrim. Arrows are a much cleaner kill.

First: I agree with most of the users here about your points. Some won't work, some will come.
About the quote above: I can't remember for sure in Oblivion, but in Skyrim there were those armor types, so how is that not "true to the titles"?

And btw: To call something "idiotic" is neither polite nor shows a very mature attitude. Try a more relaxed discussion about a subject and stop beeing so aggresive.

Some of his complaints were legitimate, but it came out in a whiny way to some people such as yourself.

Theres no illusion about actually having more choice of armor you can wear. If I want to wear light armor in ESO i now have more types to pick from. I don't just have to wear cloth robes, I can now wear light armor in the Orcish style or Ebony or w/e else is available. More choices, thats no illusion, thats real and actual variety and choice.
