Only if they can make it turn on and off without having to physically remove it from your eye...

lol, double blink for on, double blink again to turn off would be cool. I think atm it's just the basic tech for it, further implementation will probably be done later.

So you have to lower your head and look up for magnification powers?

I imagine that would make you look like a creep all the time. :D

Couldn't you accidentally blind yourself by looking at the sun with these on?

People already accidentally blind themselves by being stupid with their contact lenses as-is.

They explain that in the article:

Sounds pretty nifty.

Well, I did give a cursory glance. Still, not perfect, since it's not one self-contained unit. You still need something else to activate the contacts.

So for now you have to wear glasses to activate it? Sort of defeats the purpose of the contact.

If you had to take off glasses to activate it it really would be like Superman.

Maybe the glasses will also be designed to leave a curl in your hair when yoy take them off too.

IDEA: Some people can blur their vision by flexing a muscle in their eye. If a chip was placed along that nerve, could it not activate the telescopic vision when a signal is sent along the nerve?

STATEMENT: I feel that the use of 3D glasses does, in essence, defeat the purpose of the device. However, the researchers more likely concerned with making it actually work, then deal with the activation mechanism later.
