It will turn you into such a cynical bastard.
Has anyone else tried this abomination? Right now I'm at level 2 with 65 deaths and half a keyboard.

Look like a typical mario game playing experience to me ;p
I find this game kind of amusing. If you get angry over it -- don't. It's not meant to be played like most other games, you have to expect to be punished.
That doesn't give much credit to old games. I understand you're joking, but if you go back and play many old classics, you'll find that they're http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FpigqfcvlM than you remember.
By the way, I died 18 times before getting to level 2.
What I mean is the old school games were unforgiving, you had to learn each level, get your timing down, and know what to expect.
I don't think it would be possible to run through Unfair Mario and the old school games on your first try and beat it. Compare this to most games nowadays.
That's not true. At least at first, old games give you lots of room for error - big health bars, extra lives, plenty of reaction time, and so on. The margin for error decreases as you get further in the game, but that's to compensate for the fact that you've (presumably) been improving yourself.
If games nowadays don't seem as hard as games of the past, it's because they don't increase in difficult like past games used to. If anything, games today tend to get easier as you get better weapons and items until you can blow away anything without a second thought.
Do you want to be able to beat any game on your first try?
The possibility for complete failure is what makes eventual success so enjoyable in the first place.
Don't they have a tetris game ? I went crazy over it.
Most games nowadays like COD/Assins Creed, I can run through em first plauthrough without a gameover on normal difficulty.
It wouldnt be possible on a Mario game. Or a game like Raiden or Altered Beast
Died 20 times, gave up. This game is ridiculous.
