Red Dead Redemption, ending?

Post » Thu Jul 11, 2013 1:59 pm

warning: spoilers ahead................. obviously.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know the game is 3 years old, but I just completed it for the first time literally 15 minutes ago, and wanted to discuss. I am in awe.

I actually played up to when John dies last night, was  and couldn't sleep for a while.

Redid it this morning cause I decided if he was going out, he was taking down more than 2 army men with him. Then went on to do the "Remember My Family" final mission.

What do you think of the ending? I've been looking around on differing forums, and some think it's amazing.. others disappointing.

For me I just found it overwhelmingly sad. Not even in that John died.. that was almost expected. But that the whole game you're doing things for this government, and then they come for you too. All that energy, when it would've been better spent just shooting Ross in the head upfront day one.

Mostly I find it sad that all he and Abigail want is to change their pasts, and for Jack to lead a better and different life to them... but in the end both of them wishes failed.

I feel very melancholy. :(

Spoiler
His death was, inevitable... He was looking for redemption... and he got it... He sacrificed his life, so his family could get away.

as for how I felt about the ending... I was shocked, and was alittle dissapointed... until I thought about it a while... and found it was a great ending

Spoiler
I felt very sad after I beat the game as well. The game just doesn't feel the same without John Marston, even though I have gotten used to playing as Jack. That's why when it comes time for the last mission, I don't do it. Yeah, I'll forever be stuck in a lame rancher's outfit, but at least I'll be playing as John Marston.

I don't think Ross would ever let him go. His mission was to hunt down every last outlaw he could find in Dutch's gang. John was a part of that gang, so he had to go. I personally think what Ross did was illegal from the get go. What he should've done was either arrest John on Day 1, or keep up his end of the bargain and leave the Marston family alone when all was said and done. He was as corrupt as corruption could go. Archer Fordham earned some sympathy points because he was just a lackey, and he did tell Marston he (Fordham) was proud to have fought alongside him, and did a round-about way of apologizing for all the crap Marston had to go through.

A lot of people give Jack crap because a- he wasn't developed beyond this whiny-ass kid and b- we only knew him from a few missions, but I like Jack. It's expected he should behave the way he did because he grew up surrounded by basically murderers who he once thought of as family, then the government comes and arrest both him and his mother and hold them ransom until John does what he's told. Jack is seriously one messed-up kid.

I'm thinking of giving this game one more playthrough. :D

In my honest opinion one of the greatest video game endings of all time. True to the genre and the story it was telling with a lot going on thematically.

Even better if you manage to fit in the "I Know You" missions into the big picture.

Best ending of all time?

Have you played Portal 2 or the Last of Us or Bioshock Infinite?

I'm not dissing RDR, it's my favourite game of all time, but I've seen better endings.

I think the ending of The Last of Us was great but i didn't think it better then the RDR ending, the voice acting and slight stupidity kind of ruined it for me. ****SPOILER***** Generic "take my jailors gun and kill everyone" ruined it for me. Thats the only part i didn't like. But when she tells him to tell the truth and he says that... that part gave me chills.

To me personally the RDR ending was definitively up there in the top 10. Hearing John choke on his blood... Dam.... it was like watching the wild west die...

I managed to avoid spoilers about the ending before and during my playthrough of RDR and was amazed by it. Sadly, a large part of it came from the fact that most videogame/movie endings are really bad.

Yeah I thought the ending was pretty good. Especially the ending you get for doing that stranger mission as Jack. I killed that ross dude, his brother, and his wife. Felt very satisfying haha.

I loved the game, and was sad at the ending, I am a bit hazy on the details now because I played and beat it back when it came out. I hated playing as Jack, just not as cool as John and he game just wasn't the same. I also liked undead nightmare, it was fun.

I only did Jack's missions and stopped playing afterwards. Didn't mind playing him for a short while to 'end' the game, really. Freeroaming wasn't really my thing in RDR.

See, I couldn't kill Ross's wife or his brother. They'd done nothing wrong, other than being associated with Ross. Red Dead Redemption, not Revenge.

Oh yeah, definitely. When he says 'I'm an accountant' and 'you will be responsible. This is a fine spot' .. I'm certain he's stood where johns grave will be.
