I'm the opposite. I make a glass last the whole meal because it's easy to see how much is left and moderate how fast I drink. Not so easy with a can.
I drink liquids in various forms. I started buying 1.5L Diet Mountain Dew and I notice that once I started drinking those I began to consume WAY more liquids than I should be (in the form of soda). If I have a can I can consume 2-3 cans now instead of being content with just one. If I'm at a restaurant I find that if I have a straw I consume my liquid at a much faster rate. So, yea, my liquid consuming is somewhat confusing as well.
I notice the same thing. If I have a bottle of soda I just take a small sip every once in a while and then close the cap, but I finish off a can in a minute or two. I'll drink a glass of water/soda even faster, because there's no opening to limit the amount I can drink per gulp.
I never worry about it unless I need to ration, then I ration appropriately. Sometimes I'll kill whatever I'm drinking in mere seconds, damn it I was thirsty! Other times I won't finish it and slowly drink it.
The only thing I don't drink fast ever is scotch. Drinking scotch fast is like trying to finish having six before you even get in bed with the girl.
I was referring to where you said "lets" as if there were more than one entity inside of your body or consciousness that you were partaking of the beverage with.
