One things I took away from this article:

So Nightblades get an ability like Vanish, from WoW, where you can go invis in the middle of a fight. That is very interesting indeed.

Indeed. It certainly infers that Nightblades will have class given stealth abilities. So just like healing is something everyone can do but only the Templar will have class given and more healing options, Stealth is something everyone can do but only the Nightblade has class given and more options to use stealth. Makes sense to me.

SHAAAADOW-CLOOOOAK!!!
You just know that the author knew full well what the fan reaction would be to that. I swear they enjoy winding us up.

You want to drop the "I told you so" on Rageborn yet, or do you just wanna hold off 'til it's official? Lol

Yes there are classes in this game, but they aren't truly classes, they are more like templates. You can be whatever you want to be with whatever class you want to be. So if you want to be a Sorcerer that runs around carrying a Mace and Shield with heavy armor and wants to tank thing, go ahead and do it. It's not like WoW where you are pigeon-holed into a specific role (Warrior - Tank/Melee DPS Warlock - Range DPS Shaman - Melee/Range DPS/Healer).

Sure there are certain skill lines attached to the class that no other class can use, but this game has a VERY loose class system compared to most MMOs out there.

I know that but I still don't really like it. Some classes will have skills only they can use or skills only they can get really good at. The healing from the Templar comes to mind. Sure, Oblivion and Morrowind had it a little too, with the skills you could select that determined wether you would level up or not. Skyrim was the first that removed it completely. But you could still become just as good with it and could advance the same things as someone who had chosen something completely different. That's why I don't like it. It's loose compared to other MMO's, but not loose compared to TES.

I am well above the pettiness of saying "I told you so". (I did though)

Seriously though I think some people just need to get it that while ESO's class system is more open its not totally open. Skyrim being the newest game in the series really does a disservice to many TES fans point of view. Before Skyrim there were in fact classes that acted like templates just like ESO is doing. So overall ESO's system is very much a TES staple.

Don't you just love those people who'll cry disloyalty to the franchise about features that have in many cases been in place since Arena? Always makes me laugh.

And here we have our proof that the class skill trees WILL indeed give the most role defining abilities, which means that letting everyone being able to choose from all trees will result in OP builds, unless they change the 'class' trees. Now that is settled as well, great! As it is my turn now, I'm gonna throw an "I told you so" to old uncle frak

Just like the QQ about cloth being labled as 'light armor' and it not being true to TES, while there was an 'unarmored' skill in Morrowind that made people without armor or with cloth on, take less damage.

Cloak of Shadows in WoW was remove and immune to magical effects.

(In TESO it seem to be what in WoW would be called Vanish).

While not exactly identical names, I think that will be a bit confusing in the beginning. :-)

We really need to step aside from the whole debate of loyalty to TES here, and evaluate the viability of features solely on their own merits. I've said it countless times now: TES =/= MMO. As a matter of fact, I found myself quite irritated over this with Oblivion. I'd agonised over racial choices, and feeling that night-eye would give me a significant advantage, rolled a khajiit, only to discover that the spell was in fact freely available to any race.

I can see the sense of it in a single player game though. It's okay that you're a god among men, because you're the only kid in the playground. That cannot however fly in an MMO. Let's just count our blessings that ZOS has implemented weapon-swapping and dropped item restrictions. This is looking to be about as open as we could ever expect from an MMO without killing roles entirely, a la GW2.
