They original tends to sell that much, but the sequels not so much. I just saw on amazon, you can get used copies of Phantasy Star II for about $10. They still sell higher than most old video games, but they are an all-time great title and such cost a bit more.
The unused, unopened copies of the original Phantasy Star on Sega Master System can go for several hundred dollars if not thousands of dollars, they're true collectors items and almost impossible to find on Amazon (you can find original Final Fantasy 1, and they cost a lot, but you still find a lot of them). You can find used copies, but the cheapest I've seen them is roughly $30. When the original title cost 3x as much as it's sequels, that is saying something to the legacy of that game.
Emulation is just as good for the original consoles because those buttons are so simple, you can bind them to your mouse and use the four direction keys as the d-pad. Though multiplayer is not as good because you either a keyboard or need multiples.
They are not cheap, but here is one. You can find them on amazon. Holds 24 games. Made of wood.

This one is larger, official Sega Genesis Game storage, even has the logo on the outside. Made of plastic. Cheaper than wood.

Thought of another decent game. Toejam & Earl
