Games movies with aliens are too cliche now :

All alien-themed games have the exact same conditions when writing the story:

1. Humans think they're awesome.

2. Aliens arrive.

3. Humans: "Oh my lawd maybe we can be friends!"

4. Aliens attack because it's what they do.

5. Humans begin to lose/ lose all together.

6. Because humans are awesome with INDESTRUCTIBLE HUMAN SPIRIT, begin an uprising.

7. Uses some stupid magic game changer (ahem, Trojan Horse virus, Independence Day) and win.

8. Aliens give up and leave.

9. Humanity America get super hyped and think they're awesome again.

This really has gotten stagnant. This whole thing about humanity being the underdog is SO CLICHé it's nearly unbearable. The whole underdog thing in Hollywood was flogging a dead horse twenty years ago.

What doesn't help is the fact that nearly every game/movie is made in America, so America does the whole 'underdog saves the day again' stuff, while the rest of the world rolls its eyes and bows down to its American overlords. Not saying anything bad against America, just the directors who look around them and say "screw it, another movie set in America!"

What would make me happy would be a movie set in a different place with a shift in power. For example, instead of America, why not Britain? Or Russia? China or Japan, maybe? For some diversity, a storyline from each place which all tie together eventually?

Second, if the big bad aliens came down and kicked up a fuss, only for us to turn around and go all "HELL NAW!!" and kick them back off. After all, humans have doomsday weapons capable of destroying the world. Why not use them? In this one instant, nukes are your friends. Ish...

An even fight would be an interesting idea. Perhaps instead of miracle weapons, the story could revolve around the intelligence of human negotiators and tacticians, and the slowly-approaching truth that nobody wants to accept as being real: A stalemate. What would that mean for Earth? For humans? For me, that would make for a more interesting story.
