My New Opinion On TES Online

Post » Tue Jul 23, 2013 10:00 am

So for quite a while, I was against the Elder Scrolls Online. I have never been a huge fan of MMO's, but I really enjoyed Guild Wars 2. I realized that an MMO can actually be really fun, and I am a huge fan of the Elder Scrolls, so this game could truly be fun. I saw more gameplay while watching E3 this year, and the gameplay seems like it is staying true to how the Elder Scrolls games are played. I really think this game could turn out to be pretty good, but I still think that the Elder Scrolls VI will be better.

So, thats my new opinion on The Elder Scrolls Online, what are your opinions?

I hate MMOs, however TESO is an odd one. The design of the game will have to alter, primarily because it's also being released on Xbox One and PS4.. you can't use a controller to click spells, communication in text is difficult, selecting targets like a traditional MMO is difficult.. etc. These limitations will ultimately have to force the game to not be a WoW clone, and henceforth, this might actually be good. From what I've seen of gameplay.. it's just sorta like Skyrim, except multiplayer and with slightly worse graphics. Both disheartening and relieving at the same time, seeing as how it's not going to be a pathetically disguised WoW clone with a "Elder Scrolls" sticker on it, but I was sort of hoping for more complexity.

Maybe if I get a beta invite, I'll be able to see all the goings on for myself and come to a fairer conclusion, but, as it is.. ehh.

On a semi-related topic, does the fact that it's set in the second era bother you? Bothers me, knowing that anything I do in the game won't matter whatsoever in the lore. Or, that the lore even accounts for anything, we already know what happens afterwards.

That's the exact reason why it's set in the second era. The MMO is supposed not to affect the single player TES games.

I am not bothered. We think we know Rome and WWII but that doesnt stop the games from coming out. In the end TES history is written much like our own... by the survivors. There will be many winners and losers in the events of TESO, but only the few to make it through such rough times will be able to speak of them.

Having played WoW from the about the start of the last patch of The Burning Crusade up until the start of this year, I have a renewed love of what single player and optional multiplayer games bring to the table, the things that an MMO just cannot do in because of the nature of it's static world no matter how many phases the developers throw into the game.

I don't expect TESO to live up to the level of freedom that the single player TES games have and will continue to do, but I am hopeful that ZOS can bring as much as humanly possible into the online world whilst keeping true to the many things that make The Elder Scrolls such an amazing series to play through.

GW2 isent really a MMO it has features of an MMO, but nothing else.

But besides that im still concerned that the PVE Endgame Content will be trivial, sure 24 players vs 100 enemies sounds fun, but there is so much randomness in this fights that luck is a really important factor, and luck should be the smallest factor in good PVE Endgame. That was a big point in some WOW Raid dungeons some bosses where only luck based and that could be frustrading as hell.

Also what i would like to mention is that the 50+ and 50++ content sounds pretty lame, if i cant meet other players that are on my lvl there, where is the thrill, where is the fun.
