Laptop to HD TV Conversion

Post » Tue Jul 30, 2013 9:16 am

Looking for some help here folks. Steam just had a massive sale (as I am sure everyone knows) and I picked up FFVII for PC. Nostalgia demands that I play it on a TV with a controller, and so I got the controller part sorted. Now that it comes to it, I need a USB to HDMI converter that will display Audio and Video on the TV. Best Buy had one option that ran 80 bucks. I felt like that was taking too much of a chance for too much money. Can anyone here point me to some products that will work for this? Much obliged.

Why on earth would you need a MHL instead of whatever video-out options your laptop has build in?

Also, to use a USB-HDMI cable, your laptop would need to support MHL, which it most likely doesn't. The other ones use their own graphics and will hurt game performance.

Well, can you offer a conversion that would work for the two? I would prefer to play FFVII through a TV with a controller, and it would be useful as a secondary Netflix option.

Doesn't your laptop have an HDMI or DVI port? I think most of them come with HDMI these days.

No conversion necessary. Use your laptop's video-out to connect it to the TV. Like narmy said, most modern laptops have HDMI-out options. If not that, it's usually VGA/DVI.

What model of laptop do you have? That would be a good place to start.
