Regarding age limit

Post » Wed Jul 31, 2013 5:01 am

Hi, I was just wondering if id have to lie my age again when the game releases, according to the policies I have to be 18+ but the ESRB icon FOR the game is RP (rating pending). I'm 13... yea yea, I know what you're thinking "immature kids ruining the game" but no I'm not an immature arsehole :) so yeah would I need to lie abourlt my age..?

ZOS is probably going to go for a teen rating. I highly doubt this game will get a mature rating.

I think the age limit thing is for them to be compliant with laws. Like most things though, kids find loopholes and ways around them.

We don't know yet what the rating for the game will be.

Oh and as for the whole lying about the age thing... that's between you and your parents and none of my business.

Pretty much this. The Teen rating seems to be the "sweet spot" for MMOs (most won't get lower age ratings because they have no real way of controlling what people will say online).

It will most likely be going for a 15 rating, at least here in the UK, both Oblivion and Skyrim were classified at that. Of course for me personally, I hope they aim for an 18 rating and no, that hasn't nothing to do with immature kiddies, in my experience with online communities, I have seen 12 year olds who act like mature, responsible 40 year olds and vice versa, but for the fact they would be able to include more ..."detail" to the game.

I don't know what age rating policies do with beta phasing, one can only assume they are put up to 18 just to cover they own tracks, I wouldn't read too much into that as a sign of what the finished product's rating will be.

MMO's and young person under 20 is always a problem. Not for other players but mostly for themselve. Players can be very addicted to MMO's and so ruin there school/college or what else they are doing. My child will not be allowed to play MMO's as long as he lives under my house. If the game is above 13 you should ask your parents to make you a account otherwhise it could be closed. i better dont say when i startet with MMO's, atleast i can say my hair was not growing back than.

Yeah, that's a legal issue. Since in most states minors can't be legally bound to a contract, they can't accept beta testers that are legally considered minors. By making potential beta testers say that they're 18, ZOS is covered if someone attempts to sue based on their child seeing something inappropriate--The minor misrepresented himself/herself, which means that ZOS is free of any liability.

Yeah, that was pretty much my assumption. But it's good to know, because knowledge is power!

Exactly this. A NDA is a contract. That's the whole reason.
The game will be totally different. Not sure it 13 is ok then, but it won't have the same legal issues as a beta has. Simple as that.

I can pretty much guarantee they will be shooting for a 12 year old rating. Why? Because they have decided to put ESO onto consoles...simple as that. The most they will have to warn about in ESO will be violence, that's it.
