Camera suggestions needed

I had this in the tech thread but I feel it warrented its own in order to leave the more PC stuff there. I am looking for two things, a simple point and shoot camera and a camcorder. If the point and shoot and record well enough that should be fine but I do want to record in full HD. My budget is around $100 for the camera and $100-200 for the camcorder. It will nto be for anything very professional and I do not use it often but it would be put to good use. The more standardized it is in terms of storage and connections the better, I try to avoid any proprietary cables or memory cards if I can help it.

Does anyone have any good suggestions for me? I am not bias to any brand in particular though my past two point and shoot cameras have been Canon and they have served me well.

So...if you could find a point-and-shoot that records HD video would that mean you'd be willing to spend $200-$300 for the camera and forgo the camcorder? IMO you might be better off going that route.
