I read this short story about 8 years ago about a group of astronauts who explore foreign planets and collect different alien specimens to bring back to Earth and either display and/or study. They end up stranded this one planet, some of the crew begins to go insane, and there is a plot twist at the end, concerning what's really going on. I've always remembered this story, and have wanted to read it again, but can't seem to find it anywhere or anything about it, despite many searches on Google. I believe it was title The Collectors, but I may be (and probably am) wrong, and therefore searching in the wrong places. I don't remember the author unfortunately. I'd really like to find it because I thought it was a neat story when I read it.

Anyone who leads me in the right direction might be rewarded with a fishy stick (you can never have enough).

Almost reminds me of the Twilight Zone episode, "People are Alike all Over." But I don't think that was based on a short story.

It sounds like something Ray Bradbury would write, or H.G. Wells.
Maybe look through a list of their short stories.
