Red outline when targeting

Post » Wed Aug 07, 2013 3:04 am

I personally hated the red outline. To me it made it took away from the Elder scrolls combat experience, and made the graphics seem sub standard.

I dont even know why you need an outline at all. I really think there needs to be a toggle in the settings at minimum that this can be removed.

The outline is necessary to pick out a single mob in a group you want to hit, so you know which one you'll be hitting.

I do think it looks bad though. Having a toggle to turn it on/off doesn't really solve the problem though because the red glow is needed for the combat system. Personally I would prefer a more traditional system like past MMO's with an effect on the ground around the feet of the target or even a WoW Hunters mark type effect over the targets head. Both of those options would be worlds better than the current red glow thing IMO.

If it only highlights enemies in mass battles, it is very useful. There are several vids out there with solo combat where there is no outline. Since it is part of the UI, there may be ways to turn it off, dim it or even make it bigger. Different uses for different situations.

I am going to make a UI mod that makes it a sparkly rainbow.

Can't believe I see more Yes then No right now.

I totally get the reason there have to be a some info about current softlock etc., but it destroys the look of the game so much (not even mentioning the immersion).
It will be toggable, thank god. But I am really surprised how many people are fine with it.
Isn't there nicer way to do it, or at least more subtle?

Anyway I will definitely deactivate it for PvE. I think it's even more fun this way.

Depending on how open they are with their UI modding (which it looks like they are going to be very open with it) I can see people making new versions of it within the first few weeks. I'd prefer just a circle on the ground around my target that I'm aiming at.

But, I understand what the purpose of it though. It's there to let you know which mob you are targeting and trying to hit. Watching the video it looks like they aren't doing unit frames in this game, so it would be very hard to determine who you are trying to hit if you can't see some type of indicator. Yes, the glow is a bit over-the-top, but I see why they have it and I expect that someone will make a mod within the first few weeks to make alternatives to it.

It really doesn't bother me, I also like being able to see exactly what I am targeting, so voting yes.

Well, i am not totally sure if this is possible by a UI mod. What kind of UI-mods have you seen?
I don't know about that in a MMO, but I know a little about programming and 3D and changing from outlines to a 3D circle on the ground is quite a difference on a technical level (one is 2D, one is 3D basically). So I wouldn't bet this will be possible just by scripting(except ZOS will put it in explicitly of course).
If you only have acess on the 2D-side (like it sounds to me) I am not sure if this is possible.
(But I am ok with turning it off or down.)

It's bad and they should feel bad.

But seriously, an option to remove it, a slider to turn the opacity down to nothing would be greeeeeeat.

I seriously doubt this will be moddable.
