What drives you up a wall?

Post » Thu Aug 08, 2013 4:40 am

You know what drives me up a wall? People posting in flagrant disregard for the forum rules.

Yes, this was directed at the people who posted political statements that I have since deleted. If it happens again, suspensions will be handed out.

When my grandmother gives me money for doing absolutely nothing. Why is she doing that?! Is it love? Senility? Insanity?

Which makes me more livid because they get in the way of the wall I want to drive up.

Typically I appreciate people on a single basis, but collectively people can be stupid, irrational, quick to judgement with no facts presented, and generally speaking extremely panicky without justification. As a PSU alum, I witnessed this first hand and the ignorance of facts still persists today. I was livid when someone in HR asked me to remove PSU stuff (like my degree) from my office because it was upsetting some people because of the situation. I was pissed off about that because some ignorant and arrogant [censored] thought it was OK for me to be told to take my accomplishments down, but everybody else was allowed to.

I think Tommy Lee Jones in Men In Black: "A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it."

Truer words have never been spoken.

Ah not really. The Big 10 is something of a joke in big games since 2006.

Ohio State is probably going to get to the championship game again this year just due to the pansy schedule they play. Then they will embarrass the big 10 yet again

Much like what Lexicon said:

When I'm constantly disturbed and have little to no time to myself.

When an overhead light is not turned off when everyone has left the room, and I have to get up to turn it off myself.. sometimes I have to do this more than once.

Noise in general, whether it's people talking in my area when I'm trying to think or the sound of doors opening and closing.

I don't like being around a lot of people outside my family either, but the ones above are the ones that aggravate me the most. :verymad:

People who go into arguments with a made mind. It has always been a priority for me to keep an open mind about everything and think about things from both sides, but I guess it's not a very popular trait among others.

Other than that I have eliminated most of my pet peeves with my "it doesn't affect me so I don't care" policy. When driving there are many things that make me angry, but that's something we all share I suppose.

The Big 10 is more of a basketball conference anyways.

I'm okay with people who do that to their books - I mean they do own them, they can do stupid stuff with them if they want to - but people who do that to my books are in for a world of trouble. :toughninja:

Alright, despite my dislike for making lists, I'll try to make a proper one.

  • People who don't cover their mouths when they're coughing or sneezing.
  • Slow drivers (and fast). "Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?" - George Carlin
  • Racism and other ignorant and irrational hatreds/dislikes. The latter will probably backfire on me later on.
  • People who lick their fingers while/after eating.
  • People who eat with their mouths open; you would expect people to stop doing that by the time they were advlts, but you'll be surprised.
  • People who look at you while you're eating. Makes me uncomfortable.
  • When ignorant people accuse older artists of covering songs by newer artists when it was in fact the other way around.
  • Quackery.
  • Parents who give their children overly strange names.
  • Smokers in public who don't give a [censored] about those around them.
  • People who make out in public.
  • When people try to explain things I already know as if I don't.
  • People who can't argue properly. Being an arguer isn't only about presenting a good case and beating your opponent. Some people seem to lose all their humanity in arguments, and whether they're winning or losing they'll still be asses. Ethics shouldn't be thrown out of the window.

Such a small sample size. They're definitely in a down era, but by no means a joke because they have been to BCS Bowls and they do win (PSU, tOSU most notably).

Wow, really?

The schools that keep that conference mainly held together are more football than basketball...namely Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State. PSU really doesn't even make the tourny for basketball, they typically play the other invitational.

People who don't do their dishes.

When people reverse my first and last names while it's very evident I'm of one six and not the other.

The spelling of "Michael" as "Micheal".

The smell of cat urine.

When names are mispronounced. It drove me insane when I knew a girl named Jessalyn whose mother's friend called her Jocelyn even after constant correction.

Having sand in my tent.

A dirty or disorganized home.

When I get forced to do something.

Modern baby names, and the return of old timey ones.

Wedding photos. Not wedding photos themselves, but just seeing the same uninspiring cutesy poses and "omg we're so wacky, guise" shots over and over again.

The fact that so many girls lead my best friend on just to have fun.

When people look at me like I have an anus on my head when I tell them I don't drink or watch sports, except for volleyball, and couldn't care less if the hugely popular team at the hugely popular university nearby wins or loses.

Commercials in general, but ones that insist women are wise and men are stupid, rather than actually feeding the cause of equality.

As a feminist, I dislike pandering towards women. A lot. And those aforementioned ads do that. As well as women always being in ads for cooking and cleaning products, but I can understand those are their main customers still.

Not feeling like making a large list right now, so I'll just throw this one thing in here.

People who just fill liquid soap containers up with water. Just because it looks like there is soap in the container does not mean there is soap in the container.
