Firefox on Android

Post » Fri Aug 09, 2013 1:35 pm

I am looking for advice in using the Firefox browser on Android, anyone use it?

At the moment I use the Samsung browser (imo better than the G Chrome browser for android) as it is fast and efficient and will sync with Google Chrome on my desktop, but I rarely use desktop Chrome so my bookmarks get dated and I have the occasional hassle of renewing them. If I switch to Firefox I can sync with my desktop Pale Moon bookmarks etc.

Looking through Google for reviews etc. gives a variance of results, some good, others not so good - so guys, comments and thoughts?

I use it since it has built-in SOCKS5 proxy support, which allows me to easily browse intranet webpages at work and home from anywhere.

Beyond that I don't really use it for much. Browser seems capable to me. It was pretty crappy when it first came out (svcked up my battery, lacked copy/paste functionality, and just all around buggy) but it seems fine these days.

I'm still using Opera 12-series as my main Android web browser though. Best zooming, text-wrapping, and text selection of any android browser I've used so far. The UI can also be set to full-screen mode, which is pretty rare and useful to maximize pixels on a smartphone. Shame that Opera 15+ killed Opera's usefulness on Android.

I don't really see bookmarks as all that useful on a smartphone and I definitely don't browse a fraction of the sites I do on my desktop on my phone as well, so I've never really bothered doing anything bookmarks-wise beyond setting up a few of the speed dials.

I didn't like the interface for Firefox on Android. Personally, I use Dolphin for my tablet and Opera mini on my phone.
