A Reaction to Radical Change

Post » Fri Aug 09, 2013 5:43 am

Imagine if one day you woke up and your body was severely changed. This could be anything from something mildly plausible and posible to fix (though quite costly), such as missing an arm/leg, a change of six or change in height/weight, or something completely impossible, such as morphing into an animal/anthropomorphic creature (like Khajiit), or growing a tail/pair of wings, or something in between, like rapid aging. Basically any radical change of the body that is so radical, you can't revert back unless you dedicate basically your entire life devoted to get back to your old self.

How would you react to such a change other than the typical "What the [censored] just happened?" reaction? Would you try to revert back, or would you embrace the change, accepting that the chances of going back to your old body were pretty slim? How would you view the change after, say, five years of living with the change? Would you care what other people thought about this unexplainable change, or would you stay away from society/old friends and family entirely because of this change? Basically, what would your course of action be to deal with such a change?

And as a bonus question to answer, if you could choose which of those seven changes listed above you would go through (you have no option to refuse the change or to select an eighth), which would you pick and why? Keep in mind while answering those questions that these are changes affecting the body, and not at all affecting the mind (other than whatever changes potential trauma could make).

I was just pondering such a question yesterday, and I was thinking about how much I would accept such changes as those listed above (I'd love to have one of the impossible changes happen to me, though the plausible changes not as much). Then I thought, "This would make a fun thread".

Don't feel obligated to answer any or all of these questions if you feel uncomfortable with such a topic. I myself don't care all that much and think this would be an interesting discussion, but I can't say the same for anyone else. Try to keep the discussion appropriate, or at least be fairly mature about this topic.

Hope this thread turns out to be a fun discussion, and not one of those weird "What is wrong with the guy who made this thread?" topics. :)

A machine that could be constantly morphing and be impossible to hack. At least with current day technology. Assuming I HAD to pick something.

You can't avoid this change. It essentially just happens. You are essentially stuck with this changed body for most of your life. What is your course of action?

Growing a pair of wings?

Can they support my body for flight?

That is what wings do, I'd imagine. Like having the right sized arms. :/

I cba answering the question (no offence) but one radical body change that must be weird (and, while is unlikely, is not impossible like turning into a khajiit is)
Is if as a child/young teen you were in a coma, and no one turned your life support off.. And 30 years later you wake up. That'd be pretty horrific I imagine.

Damn, that was actually the question I asked myself that started the series of thoughts leading to this thread! :o

Well, kind of. I asked myself how I would react to waking up and finding my body thirty years older. I should add that to the OP. Thanks for reminding me about that. :)
