Help with starting my D&D group?

I'm starting a D&D group, but I'm not even sure where to begin. I'm rather inexperienced with the game myself and just know the core rules. The other members will all be entirely new to the game.

  1. We were going to play 4E. I know it's a little slated, but it's probably the best bet for people new to the game. My concern is to how we will play it without the use of tiles or miniatures? My local club isn't going to be permanent it seems, which is why I'm forming a group to play online through Skype or Google+ Hangouts.
  2. How difficult is it to DM the game? As the only person with any knowledge of it, I feel as though it should be my responsibility. I'm also known for having quite a good imagination, so everyone I have spoken to about it says that I would make a good DM.
  3. The Yogscast recently played D&D for YouTube's Geek Week. Go check it out if you haven't. Could anyone here tell me which version of D&D they are using? They're using "house-rules", right?
  4. Which sort of rules should we be abiding by for newbies to the game? Most people use "house-rules" of some description and aren't too strict.
