SEGA is buying Atlus.

Here's a comment from a random person on the internet Valkyria Chronicles on PC. yesssssssssssss

Apparently there are rumors going around that SEGA will release all of the exclusive console video games that it has in existence that SEGA developed and published in the years that it has existed as a video game company.

Deals that Nintendo made to be exclusive will not come to PC only once that time is up this includes Sonic Lost World and the next Mario & Sonic Olympics game.

SEGA is a gentleman and a scholar.

All praise be to Rome 2 Total War and the PC exclusive market.

I like what one of the employees that work for SEGA said.

"Total War: Rome II outscales any previous war game we've ever made before," said Mike Simpson, studio director at the Creative Assembly. "Our budget for this game was 40% larger than we had for Shogun 2. The gameplay campaign, itself, is around four times the size of Shogun 2's campaign. The game has 700 battlefield units for players to use and nine playable factions to command with different cultures, weapons, and tactics. It's an undertaking of a completely different step."

It seems SEGA made more money off of PC gamers than console gamers.

Video game research firm Newzoo has forecast that globally more money will be spent on games played on the PC screen than on the TV screen as the game industry transitions to next-generation consoles. According to Peter Warman, founder of Newzoo, game revenues generated through PCs represent 39.2% ($27.6 billion) of the global market this year vs. 36.7% ($25.4 billion) for the TV screen. Market segments that make up the PC revenues are online social and casual gaming, massively multiplayer online (MMO) games, and PC boxed and downloaded games.

When they said the TV screen they mean the consoles so SEGA made $2 billion dollars (USD) more on PC than it did on the consoles.

I have to ask... since you're the member that is most opposed to DRM and won't be buying any games that require DRM, does that mean you'll pass up on Rome 2? Because it does in fact require Steam.

I don't always buy DRM games, but when I do, it's Rome 2.

That's across the whole industry, not just Sega. http://www.newzoo.com/free/rankings/top-25-companies-by-game-revenues/ Sega didn't hit $1 billion total. There's no telling how much they made on console vs. PC, unless you have another source.

"Market segments that make up the PC revenues are online social and casual gaming, massively multiplayer online (MMO) games, and PC boxed and downloaded games." This is also important. Really, the only PC segment competing with consoles is the boxed and downloaded games. Social games, MMOs are mostly PC/tablet/smartphone exclusive. Meanwhile consoles don't really have other segments. So you're comparing one segment against several. Of course "PC" gaming is going to bring in more revenue. Yet most "gamers" don't care about the revenue of the other segments. How are boxed/downloaded competing games doing vs. consoles?

PC Gaming is a powerful presence in its own way. Whoever is running SEGA is incredibly smart and intuitive in figuring out where these markets are going before their competitors. Or just lucky, either way. Kudos to them, they've been putting a lot of work into making some solid games.

Hey I didn't reply back quicker because I had to go to the store to grab some stuff.

Yep unfortunately I will not be buying Rome II: Total War because of the Steam requirement I don't care if I miss out on the awesomeness that is the Total War series. However a rumor is claiming that SEGA will soon publish the physical boxed versions of the PC versions of it's video games that are sold at brick and mortar retailer stores to be Digital Rights Management (DRM) free because SEGA sees the rise of DRM free video games on PC because of the success of kickstarter all these rumors I am taking from NeoGAF NeoGAF seems to get lots of rumors correct most of the time then there are times when people on there just make stuff up.

Hope the "Sega offering DRM-free wares" rumor proves true, maybe the industry is starting to see the effect of DRM

I can approve of this. I might like Steam, but if others want the choice of not having it then kudos to them. Keep up the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GndAOk5eu54 ballowers.

Well you know a rumor is a rumor until it becomes a real official answer from SEGA. Which right now this rumor is scaring me because if it's fake then I will be heart broken again but if it's real I will purchase every single video game published by SEGA just like I am doing to CD Projekt RED and inXile right now.

Not any new information there. SEGA Japan stay as a console developer and SEGA USA & SEGA Europe love Steam, just like it's been for several years already.

What a guy representing SEGA USA/EUROPE say doesn't apply to SEGA Japan at all. They have different visions and different directors. The only thing in common besides the name is that SEGA USA/EUROPE publish a few of the games SEGA Japan develop.

No. SEGA is bidding on Atlus, but then again, several other companies are too. The outcome is not known yet. And even if SEGA becomes the owner of Atlus, it's not like they suddenly will shift focus towards PC games, because SEGA Japan doesn't care about PC and neither do Atlus.

Not gonna happen anytime soon if ever, SEGA Japan don't care about PC.

Sounds like a wishful thinking rumor to me. That said, they have released a few of their Mega Drive, Saturn and Dreamcast games on Steam, but far from all of them. Not to mention that they lost the source code for several of their Saturn games, including Panzer Dragoon Saga, so a PC port of that game is extremely unlikely to say the least.

Eh, no. SEGA love Steam and already have millions of SEGA fans using Steam for the past Total War games and Football Manager (two western games with a long PC history, not japanese games as SEGA Japan is not interested in PC). Football Manager 2013 been in the top10 list of most played Steam games for many months now.

To sell DRM free games would be a hassle, since they then would have to make a second SKU of the game and more expensive too as the retail stores and shipping takes a larger % of the profits than just selling it digitally on Steam. Especially consider Steam works for them, their games are popular there.

This article is using Football Manager, Total War, and Company of Heroes as examples for refashioning, but they've all been PC exclusives for years. What am I missing?
