Recommendation for a new FPS - game?

Post » Sat Aug 10, 2013 4:01 am

Can anyone give me a recommendation for a new or older FPS - game I might like?

I've been looking for a title "Painkiller: Hell & Damnation", it'll be published in August, is that Bethesda game? There's a PC - version available, have anyone played it? How's does the gameplay feel compared to Rage?

If the game I asked for isn't a Bethesda game, I apologize that I'm asking about this game on this forum. Instead of answering straight to the Painkiller - question, I would want to hear an alternative to Rage from the other Bethesda FPS - game?

Painkiller isn't a Bethesda game. That game in particular is a remake (sort of, not all levels are in there) of the original Painkiller. I guess it's the console release that's coming out now? It's been on PC for a while.

It's an old school style shooter, very fast, not much story, no inventory. Not really like Rage at all. I haven't played this version myself but I really liked the original game.

Painkiller: Hell & Damnation is being developed by The Farm 51 and published by Nordic Games GmbH. You can talk about non-Bethesda games here in the Community Discussion forum, which is where this thread is.

Only game I can think of that is like Rage in some way are the Borderlands games for the 360, PS3, and PC. Both Borderlands 1 and 2 are for those three systems. I guess that Wolfenstein game that Raven developed and Activision published might be good since it has large levels to explore, too. It doesn't have much in terms of free roaming, though. It's for the PC, PS3, and 360. This Wolfenstein game was released in 2009 and is called Wolfenstein, but calling it Wolfenstein 2009 makes it easier to Google.

You can get the PC version off Amazon, but Steam no longer has it for some reason.

I plan to get to the Painkiller games, but haven't played any yet.

The best 'new' FPS game I've played was probably Farcry 3. It's similar to rage, as in you got a giant freeroaming world and can go around doing missions everywhere, got an inventory and can collect stuff to sell at the store. But the core of the game is an action shooter. (you also don't need to play the first two games to get this game, as it has nothing to do with them).

It's basically a free roaming action shooter with RPG elements. (you got a whole skill tree and level up as you kill dudes and stuff).

Dishonored is pretty damn good too, IMO. It's a FPS game Published by Bethesda (not developed), and it's got RPG elements. It's more of an action stealth FPS with RPG elements. (though you don't have to play stealth at all).

Then there's the bioshock games. They're similar to rage's style as well, giving you RPG elements, an inventory, money and all that. Not exactly free roaming, but the game has some intense level designs.

I haven't played the new bioshock, bioshock infinite, but Bioshock 1 and 2 are really awesome games, IMO. You can download them online for pretty cheap, or pick em up at a bargain bin at the game store for even cheaper.

Once again, I'll throw my hat in the ring for RISE OF THE TRIAD 2013 it's crazy fast, fun and completely stupid. If you don't own it you should just go ahead and lock yourself in a basemant. With a dog that is able to bark you to pieces. Seriously, for $15 you can't go wrong with this game.

If you like heavy metal, running around fast, rocket jumping and blowing people up into gratuitous gibs then I urge you to buy this game. If that doesn't sound fun to you then maybe you should just buy Barney's Ice Cream Adventure and go curl up in a little ball in the corner and cry. Because you're a milk drinker. ;)

I like all of those things, yet have not heard of this game. What platforms is it for? Cus I'll definitely look into getting it.

You should be ashamed of yourself. ;) It's for PC. It's on Steam, and I believe GOG has it as well.

I remember there being a Rise of the Triad game that used a Doom engine derivative sometime in the last century. Never played it myself though.

Sounds like an old-school, no-brains-required, be-quick-or-be-dead FPS from The Tallest's description :hehe:

http://www.gog.com/game/shogo_mobile_armor_division and No One Lives Forever 1&2 are great games, but they are also over a decade old so not really state-of-the-art when it comes to graphics

Sure wish the NOLF games were re-released on GOG or something.

There was a ROTT game that came out in the 1990's. Rise of the Triad: Dark War came out in 1994 and I remember playing it, along with Doom, Wolfenstein 3d, Blake Stone, Commander Keen and a slew of other games like it as a kid.

The new ROTT is exactly like the game in 1994. Plays the same, sounds the same, cheats are the same. It's the same game just with updated graphics. Which makes it awesome.

How about XIII that was a cool game too. Came out about the same time as NOLF 1 - 2 and the obscure but awesome game set in the NOLF universe Contract Jack; which I also thoroughly enjoyed.
