For DAoC Players. How did stealth work?

Post » Wed Aug 14, 2013 4:19 am

I am asking this because I am curious as to how stealth will truly work in ESO. I was led to believe it is seemingly similar to DAoC stealth system.

So three questions.

What are the basics?

How does it work in PVP?

How does it work in PVE?

Speculation is welcome as well.

Stealth classes are capable of rendering themselves invisible to the enemy; this offers an advantage in intelligence gatherering in RvR, and allows them to choose when to attack. DAoC's rogues are divided into archer and assassin subclasses. Assassins specialize in hidden attacks and quick kills. Their unique style line, Critical Strike, allows them to attack unsuspecting enemies from stealth, inflicting massive damage. This style line focuses on reactional style combos as well. Assassins also make use of poisons to inflict various status effects and weaken their opponents. Archers are the bow wielders of the game, striking enemies from a distance. The archery line gives these classes access to a variety of different shots, allowing them to pick and choose their damage type between elemental and physical depending on the situation. Although the Minstrel hybrid class can train Stealth, the primary stealth classes are the Hunter, Infiltrator, Nightshade, Ranger, Scout, and Shadowblade.

It is totally differnt from DAoC, in DAoC stealth worked as in WoW and it was kinda overpowered.

in teso stealth should work just as it worked in Skyrim

in ESO you'll be able to render yourself invisible as well. It'd be really awkward watching an enemy crouching in the distance and you walk up to him and say "Psst what are you doing?"

Here's how stealth works in ESO:

Not in Cyrodiil:

Invisible, but line of sight matters. If you stand in front of an NPC, they will see you.

In Cyrodiil:

Invisible, but you will have a shadow on the ground for anyone to see. If you stay in shady areas, you will not be seen.

All of this also depends on a spot check, based on your skill and their ability to see you.

While in stealth and moving you will lose stamina. If you stand still, even in stealth, you will regain stamina.

There are skills/spells to detect stealthed and invisible subjects.

Thanks. Seems we have conflicting accounts. I guess the natural next question to ask is how will it be similar and/or different to both Skyrim and DAoC?

I hope it isn't like Skyrim because that really wouldn't work all that well in this setting. Unless they just took the basic premise I suppose. I dunno if it would be funny or sad to shoot some enemy in the head and they don't know where it came from. Then they just acted like nothing happened..."Maybe I was just hearing things". *walks away with an arrow sticking out of his head.

I don't have access to my PC atm and that hasn't been given the ability for mobile devices to view it.

To go more in depth, I was thinking more along the lines of tactics and roles as well. How do people counter stealth characters? How are they most effective in PVP? Etc etc. How are they used in taking forts? Seems suicidal to sneak attack inside a fort and then get decloaked from stralth afterwards.

Obviously some of the things I ask may not be known yet so specualtion is invited in those instances.

Well we already know several ways to counter stealthers in this game. One of the skills in the Mages Guild is called Magelight and it helps you spot stealthers easier. Also any damage they take will also break their stealth too. So if you use any sort of AoE ability and it hits them will break it.

Stealthers will be more effective as scouts not so much in the middle of a fight. You would use them to scout ahead and tell you where the enemy is around a keep before you rush in.

Alright, seems like it could be an interesting setup. I wonder if you can invest in Stealth and still be a viable frontline fighter or not.

Has anyone played a stealther in DAoC? Is it fun or tedious? I would imagine it depends on the individual but some second opinions wouldn't hurt.

lol aweful video btw...but I really hope stealthers will be a viable asset to the realms. Im praying the skills that detect stealth wont be too powerful as in DAOC everyone and their bot had em and all but ruined the game for me. I don't mind there being skills to detect stealth as long as they're duration is very short and range limited. You use it, you see a stealther, you pop him. But being able to cruise around looking for em would be imbalanced imo.

In DACO I was pretty much intel for pvp groups alerting them to enemy groups/size/makeup. I would camp gates or routes for reinforcements so we didn't get ambushed taking a keep. I would also jump stragglers who fell behind groups and when we had a team of stealthers, we would even jump entire groups. It can be tedious but I absolutely loved my SB.

Seems like the limited hotbar negates the likelihood of a lot of people keeping a detect stealther ability on hand. So it may be that they will be quite effective. When you only have 6-12 abilities at a time(you can swap for an extra loadout right?) it can be a pain to fill a slot with a potentially pointless ability for just in case scenarios. Time will tell though.
