What happenedd to conjuration?

Post » Wed Aug 14, 2013 10:19 pm

Whatever happened to conjuration? I feel like it has been completely forgotten. I love conjuration and i know i am not completely alone on this. I want to be a heavy armor conjurer so bad!!!! I ask a few questions to whomever can answer. Please shed some light for me, thanks!

Will there be a respectable conjuration build in ESO?

Will conjuration be viable as a singular use of damage?

Is conjuration designed to be a support rather than main use of DPS?

In ESO, (if conjuration exists) will i be able to summon a variety of top-tier creatures to combat different elements(IE: FrostvFire ShadowvPhysical)?

There's no conjuration, just as there's no restoration, destruction, mysticism, illusion, alteration, etc.

All magic skills are thrown around all over the place in character class skills (and possibly weapon skills). For conjuration - there's a sorcerer skill line that focuses on summoning stuff and spells with very conjur-ey theme, but it's not a direct replacement. That amount of focus suggests that summoning and such *should* me reasonably useful as a character specialization. As for the balancing - who knows. The fact that the summons are still on a very short timer (unlike pets in other MMOs) implies that the summons are more akin to damage/deployed spells, not toggles/buffs.

Now, as for DPS - no, conjuration can NEVER be a primary DPS. Because you do not have control over your summoned thing, you can't "pilot" it, and thus have to rely on the AI. That always hampers DPS.

The more relevant question is - does that even matter? Unless it is in a highly competitive raid/pvp scenario, no, maxing out the DPS does not matter.

Thank you for enlightening me on this. So from what i understand, conjuration will be a sorcerer class specialization and will act more like a normal damage spell but in the form of a summoned creature. I was definitely looking forward to summoning a flame atronach to fight by me for all time but it seems as though my dreams have been crushed. At least i will be able to summon one for a few seconds!

Said by Nick Konkle, in an interview at : http://www.polygon.com/2013/8/5/4590240/elder-scrolls-online-is-becoming-a-lot-more-like-a-skyrim-mmo

Not only is conjuration there, its already nerf worthy.

The conjured armor mentioned during Quake Con, is what interested me most though. Because of that I'll probably make a sorcerer first, see if I can appear to be a squishy cloth wearing target, that suddenly becomes a tank at the press of a button.

As long as they don't go overboard on the nerfs.

I'm more interested in what I can summon. I will glee like a school girl if I can summon my favorite Dremora Lord. I know they have Storm Atronachs which from what I seen looks similar to the ones from Morrowind, and they look pretty intimidating. I hear there's also Winged Twilights. Judging from what I could gather from the Quakecon video, there seems to be a Gloom Wraith pet of a sort, likely under conjuration as well.

Anyway, if they have to nerf it, then I guess I should be comforted knowing that they are very much viable as a pure conjurer. Good...

+10 to Mythic Dawn-esque summoned Armor. Like a boss.

Do we have any details on the time limits? Is it similar to Skyrim where they last a minute by default?

Conjuration is in via "Daedric Summoning." There is no conjuration staff.

No, there are two staves called "destruction staff" and "restoration staff". Weapons are not the same as magic lines you can invest in. (Similar, sure).

Likewise, I must repeat that Conjuration itself is NOT a sorcerer skill-line. There is a skill-line that has conjuration-like abilities, but, for example, it does not have Soul Trap (that is moved to a guild skill line). Neither of those lines have raise dead spells, which would have fallen under conjuration before.

And you can summon your atronarch etc, and have it fight besides you, it's just that it has a very short duration (like in skyrim), so you have to basically re-summon it for every fight (and even inside fights) - that's how it is more an attack-style spell, not a permanent-style-spell.

I was very impressed with the sorcerers and master wizards in morrowind .. the ability to summon dremora and keep them with me as a constant companion and friend was a real treat in both morrowind and skyrim. especially 2 dremora ...

I sure hope this is in ESO.

oh and also the ability to heal them and keep them healed would be good

Well don't forget that the "schools of magic" are made up anyway. Its a way for the mages guild to classify similar things, like "Biology" or "Chemistry." It isn't some hard and fast thing. Its just a handy game mechanic to have them level together.

Prior to the 3rd Era and the prominence of the Mages Guild, the schools could have been different. Prior to the Mages Guild, there were no schools at all.

It is still destruction and restoration. You may not like that its tied to a weapon but its still there whether you dont see it or not.

I prefer having the ability to summon dremora by the use of my hands and not by the use of a staff

This isn't Skyrim, there is no "hand magic" in this game.

What happened to Conjuration?

There never was conjuration in ESO - you're thinking of the single player TES games, they're different.

That's a lame argument.

Conjuration is something that exists in the lore, not just the games.
