In defense of Cyrodil-only pvp

Post » Mon Aug 19, 2013 2:06 am

I'll roll an Altmer Templar. Primarily, I will hunt the undead. Some of you will be mercenaries, assassins, thieves, wanderers. Eventually, most of us will be soldiers, fighting for the cause of our respective alliances. But to me, you are not a soldier of the enemy faction until I see you on the battlfield.

I have no desire to attack a Dunmer just because he is one. This isn't WoW. Races in TES get along for the most part. Calcelmo from Skyrim didn't get crap for being an Altmer. Neither did Chancellor Ancano from Oblivion. I don't want to go into High Rock and get attacked on sight by a bunch of npc's. Until I'm standing behind Queen Ayrenn on the battlefield, consider me an Altmer and nothing more.

Maybe the pvp could be added to more than just Cyrodil, but making every foreign zone hostile makes it seem like you're forced to be branded as a soldier of the enemy faction and not an adventurer. If I'm in Cyrodil, my intentions are clear. Was every Altmer in Skyrim a Thalmor?

you worded this so perfectly .. thankyou for the insight...

ill be playing a dark elf .. I have many friends who are Orc's and redguard, and khajiits, as well as high elves ... I have no desire to kill any of them ...

but there are some who I do wish to kill

I don't want to play a game where Im forced to kill my friends

And at level 50, we can iirc. I just don't think we should be assaulted for doing so.

The way they set up the world of Tamriel to appeal to PvPers and PvErs is actually really good.

The only players who seem to be dissatisfied are the ones who only want everything to be their way, and cannot grasp the notion that other players aren't all like them.

yeah i see what u mean, maybe if ZOS takes your idea it can be great. Have the ability for non lvl 50 players to explore the other alliance zones and not be marked for pvp, they can just be marked as explorers and what not. only when they go to cyrodill thats when you can be attacked by the opps

I'm not for pvp either, but that was a weak example of why there should not be a pvp open world. Roleplaying is not your strongest card against open world pvp.

If you were at war and a horde of enemies came into your territory, you would stand there and say, "I don't hate you guys. Can we meet up in a different place and kill each other there? You see, I'm an adventurer, not a soldier."

I think the main issue here is people don't understand just how different the world of Tamriel in ESO is compared to in past TES games. It's not like in the single player games where you see all 10 races scattered in every region. This war is real.

And as such, so is all the killing that would go along with that.

This is war, but we will not be attacking any foreign lands. We will never be raided in our homelands. Oh wait, let's all meet in in Cyrodill, because that is realistic.
