Duelling and an Auction House

Post » Fri Aug 23, 2013 4:10 am

Hello! I'm pretty sure these two topics have been discussed quite rigorously and thorougly here, but I mainly want to show my support for these two features through this post. I would also like to ask about the status on these two topics, seeing as I don't know that much about ESO, and I'm definitely not up-to-date.

Duelling is an integral part of an MMO(RPG) experience in my eyes. I want to be able to fight people who are close to me so that we can properly practice with each other, or just settle disputes in a childish way.

An 'unlimited' auction house of sorts would also be something which I find completely necessary, as I want to be able to purchase and sell items on a large scale.

Are there any arguments against these two features that I haven't thought about? Please let me know.

Thanks in advance!

Yes they have been discussed near to death.

And a completely useless part of an MMO experience in my eyes. Can't make everyone happy, you're just on the losing side.

What have you read about the Guild Store AH system that leads you to believe that you won't be able to buy and sell on a large scale?

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1469586-dueling-anywhere-how-important-is-it-for-you/#entry22916634

That was my extensive forum debating/defending dueling in ESO. Currently there is no dueling in the game. There is only PVP in Cyrodiil. There is no faction to faction combat in anyway whether it be dueling / sparring.

The poll shows most people share your/my view on wanting dueling. It is a small sample size but I also believe having the ability to duel your friends is an integral part of any well rounded MMO as well.

Dueling was always such a nuisance to me. I am standing there talking to someone or waiting for something and someone runs up and tries to duel me...

I have no time for this.. I don't even think I need one finger to count how many times I have dueled.

Very simple feature can be implemented for people like you.

Esc, Interface, Social, Auto-Decline Duel Requests -

Then I get my dueling ability and people like you never see duel requests.

I definitely hope that they will implement duelling. It is far from a useless feature, and something many people are looking forward to. It also happens to be non-intrusive, so people who do not want to duel can simply refrain from doing so. I'm not sure how you see it as useless when many people clearly want it. A bad feature is one thing, but a useless one is something completely different.

That trading will be limited to within guilds, and that leads me to believe that you cannot passively trade with someone belonging to another guild. What do I mean by "passively"? I mean that you can put your item out there and have anyone belonging to your alliance buy it. Have I misunderstood how the AH is planned to work perhaps?

Thank you, I'll give it a read!

Same. I'm sort of a big deal PvPer you see and I still don't care for duels, strangely enough. I still would like them to be in the game though.

So when I am standing at a raid entrance waiting for the rest of my guild so we can play, all those douchetards that are running all over dueling with lazer beams and [censored] all over the place will be invisible, right?

It is still non-intrusive, seeing as you can get equally bothered by just seeing random people run by you. You aren't forced to watch them duel, and if done right, you wouldn't even be able to do so from a raid entrance. You are using a worst-case scenario, which is definitely not realistic -- unless you're telling me that making entrances to raids non-duelling zones is too big of an undertaking. It's all about how you implement it, not that the feature, by nature, is intrusive.

Did you miss my post? Just because I personally am not dueling does not mean that the 200 people in my area are not dueling each other and being annoying [censored]tards.

As for the guild store, It seems to me like ZoS said, instead of us running a Server wide AH...lets sandbox the thing and let the communtiy run thier own.

Could be neat. guess we will see.

I forsee people creating large "trade guilds" that allow people to network their wares easier.

Also, this choice may have been made based on the whole mega server campaign system.

If you tie AH to the guilds that you are in, the server doesn't have to track your actual server instance. Im no developer so i am just guessing here.

If I remember correctly, a player can belong to several guilds, right? Taking that into consideration, belonging to a big trading guild could be a very neat idea. Do we know the amount of players each guild can hold?

I thought a bit on the whole channel/instance idea and I simply don't know enough about it to make an educated guess. An uneducated guess would be that it shouldn't pose any serious problems to make sure that the AH spans over all instances, meaning that players cannot change instance in order to get a better deal.

That seems like an unreasonable problem on your end.

Oh, didn't mention that in my last post but I love the Guild Store idea. Loooove it. Been playing MMOs all my life with either straight barter systems or static auction houses. Ready for a little bit of change.

Maybe the way the skill leveling system works they wanted to prevent macroing this way? Its the bane of all skill based systems.

Glad to hear it. That will be one of the first features I take advantage of.

Hey, "people like you"? what do you mean "people like me"? :)

You mean that by duelling, the two combatants can increase their skills? I definitely think they should make sure there's very little to no increase when duelling.
