No, it wasn't, because no one is walking into gamestop to cancel the preorder they placed for a game launching almost a year from now. I'd say good try, but that would be an outright lie.

Denial, if you people actually spent time in other gaming forums you'll see this announcement is actually doing more harm then good. Take off your fan boy goggles and look at the big picture. It will end up just like swtor, it will go f2p for sure after a few months after zenimax realizes they can't sustain the game on so little subs. No game besides WoW can hold a subscription.
