What the? PC games dropping Havok

Post » Sun Aug 25, 2013 8:40 am

So after reading lots of news this week it looks like the PC versions of video games are dropping the Havok physics engine in favor of Nvidia's physics engine and graphical effects.

Exclusive to PC only PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox One won't have these graphical effects except for DirectX 11 (DX 11) and Tessellation.

ArmA III uses PhysX

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt dropped Havok and is using Nvidia's PhysX instead: GPU PhysX, DirectX 11 (DX 11), Tessellation, HBAO+, TXAA

Call of Duty: Ghosts dropped the Havok physics engine and is now using Nvidia's PhysX, Apex turbulence and more graphical effects to come soon.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag uses Nvidia's graphical effects: DirectX 11 (DX 11), Tessellation, TXAA

Spliter Cell: Black List uses Nvidia's graphical effects DirectX 11 (DX 11), Tessellation, TXAA, HBAO+

Watch Dogs uses Nvidia's graphical effects DirectX 11 (DX 11) Tessellation, TXAA

Batman: Arkham Origins uses GPU PhysX, DirectX 11 (DX 11), Tessellation, TXAA

Games on PC that came out already that have Nvidia's PhysX.

Unreal Tournament III (3)

Batman: Arkham Asylum

Mafia II, Batman: Arkham City

Hitman: Absolution

and BioShock Infinite.

Who here wants Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls VI to use PhysX? PC gamers only?

Well, it's a bit unfair for ATI users (myself included) if all game devs start using hardware PhysX like CD Projekt is doing for TW3.

So I vote no.

As a (current) ATI user, I'd be rather disappointed.

Though, a new GPU is in the near future, I may or may not go Nvidia this time. Depends on the money, and the power I can get for that money at the time of purchase. Last time, ATI offered the better bang for the buck. (In my price range, Nvidia had better products, but at a premium rate I could not afford.)

Wait until next year, we might see some support come back since both of the consoles use ATI cards.
