Explanation For Death

Post » Sun Aug 25, 2013 4:41 am

I was re-reading the Game Informer article from a few months back about ESO last night and again caught the part where they mention that dying and then resurrecting is explained through the lore of the game. Because your soul was stolen by Molag Bal you're able to keep coming back somehow. I guess my question is, how does this get explained? I understand you escape Coldharbour and make your way back to Tamriel. At this point, I would imagine you are a physical being once again. Storywise, how does that make it so you can keep coming back from the dead?

Not certain on the details, but you escape without your soul. That is the Main Questline, ie you seeking to get your soul back.

Why would you do this? Not sure, I kind of like the idea of being immortal, but that's just me I guess :)

they all have souls, it is the main point of the main quest, Molag bal took your soul and you want it back.

It kind of raises the question. If the whole point of the main quest is to get your soul back, and they have said the main quest does have an ending that will be in at launch, how do they explain your death/resurrection post-main quest? Unless the main quest ends without you getting your soul back anyway.

The story is that Molag Bal stole your soul?? Why did he single the player out specifically, and how does this tie in to the faction story?

Your character is part of a prophecy from an elder scroll (surprise, surprise :teehee: ). they have not released all the details yet, but something about a soulless one stopping Molag bal. we do not know WHY he stole your soul though, or if he knew/knows about the prophecy regarding you. It is possible the faction story is going to be similar to the civil war story in Skyrim, important, but not the MAIN quest.

Oh yeah and Molag bal is trying to fuse nirn with coldharbour (his oblivion plane) because they needed a really generic story. I am hoping you meet the other princes who either help you or are trying to help Bal (maybe even have a Daedric civil war). that would be cool. though not sure how lore-friendly it is.

1) yes, to bring us into his relm and plane of existence .. (his hell to rule over us)

2) it doesn't. they just used that because they were afraid traditional mmo players would not be attracted to ESO.

Kinda nonplussed by that too, would seem a better main quest if Molag Baal had your foot, or your nose, or some other favourite appendage or organ... would certainly want those back. Perhaps if one had led an exceptionally saintly life it might represent some sort of investment... for the rest of us, you'd think it'd be the last thing you want back.

Realistically (well, within the limits of the topic) am assuming the soul-handicapped wind up becoming Draugr-like in some way... didn't they give their souls to the Dragon-Priests... presume, if not that, there must be some downside to sway the un-concerned.

Yea that's my take on it i as well...some long term eventuality that motivates you to seek your soul back at some point. So it allows you to run around having fun for a while (ie level up, quest/explore etc) but sooner or later you need to get it back.
