Eso Too much like, TES?

Post » Tue Aug 27, 2013 1:35 pm

Okay one thing I noticed in hyping and marketing, They have been catering too much to the TES crowd and they need to squeeze the MMO crowd in there somewhere,So they can get the best of both worlds.

I like to hear your opinion on this topic.

Why cater to anyone but TEs crowd other then greed? When one writes a spy thriller book, should they add in wizerds to squeeze in the fantasy crowd?

Im seeing a nice balance of both but honestly it is a game BASED on The Elder Scrolls atmosphere and lore.. so shoudlnt it be attempting to capture the TES crowd....

Eso tends to be more immersive than other mmos and the best way to do that is going good ol' TES style, the are already tens of mmos standardized, 3rd person, a huge hud needed if you want to go pro, etc.

 I don't like this thread!

If it was a spy fantasy thriller then, yes, you would want to please them. Since it's an MMO and a TES game it has to appeal to both crowds.

Now, I'm not saying that it should appeal to the MMO crowd more, but it still needs to appeal to them since it is an MMO.

The MMO crowd?

What do you mean with this?

I can easily imagine a role-playing crowd, and a TES loving people, but the MMO crowd?

I'm not sure I understand the issue?

It needs to be an ES game that allows us to play with friends. But what does this mean exactly?

To me it means my toon won't be the hero type I've been able to create in all the ES games I've played so far. In the ES games I've been able to create a Jack-of-all-trades, master of all. I doubt we'll be able to do that in ESO and I think this is as it should be. In order for a sense of community to develop there needs to be some reason to rely on other players. Also, I'd like to see some game mechanic that encourages players to group. From what I've gathered a player can solo the story-line quests. I'd prefer that to not be the case. There should be parts of any lengthy quest-line that requires players to group in order to push the quest forward or to conclusion. Again, this will promote community.

Otherwise it might as well be a first-person ES game that has the added oddity of other players running around in it with some PVP thrown in for diversion.

This is my total sum of the game in my mind. As a TES player, I would say it was a good game. 8/10 considering it was a pre release 8 months in advance. I liked what it had. It felt like a TES game. As you all know there is a skill bar, which for me was not very TES, but made sense and was very easy to get used to. It felt very natural after a short while.

As a MMO player, I was more impressed. I have never played such a fast paced, well done MMO. Most MMOs bore me to some degree. Even the ones I "enjoy" feel fake in a lot of ways. ESO did not. It is hard to judge fairly, because a new MMO can always feel like a good game. However, I can say for sure, the combat and world made me feel like I never felt before in an MMO. Well, to be fair, the world exploration reminded me of EQ and WoW because of the freedom and grand scale.

If I had to say which crowd would be more impressed with ESO, I would say the MMO crowd. ESO felt like another TES game, so that is great, but from a MMO players point of view, it really was so much more than I ever expected to see.

Well - people who play MMOs regularly - and are more focused on gameplay than things like RPing or story. That's the sterotype at least, not saying I agree.

Yes that is what i ment, since thay marking it to be mmo and a TES game thay need to put both in the marking, or that need to say it is not a mmo and say it is TES with co-op.

I have to disagree. The TES crowd is massive compared to the available MMO crowd, especially since they are now releasing on consoles (where the bulk of TES players are nowadays). Trying to cater to both will leave the game with not enough of either - it will be inadequate for both crowds. It needs to cater to the 15 million people who bought Skyrim not the 2-3 million (at most) MMO nomads that just try the newest MMOs and then leave after a few months.

I think you may be highlighting something that doesn't really exist. I'd imagine that the majority of MMO players also play FP games and vice versa. There are far more people who play all types of games that there are players who focus solely on one type/genre.
