DLC and Mod Projects (PC)

Post » Tue Aug 27, 2013 7:43 pm

As a modder, I am a bit curious about how important DLC is to those who enjoy mods. Obviously, from a modder's viewpoint, DLC offers up more "toys" for us to play with, but some of us in the great wide interwebs want to make sure our mods are as accessable to as many players as possible. Then again, if most people who play with mods also bought DLC, the advantages of requiring the DLC can outweigh the advantages of not requiring DLC.

The poll pretty much speaks for itself, at this point. Anywho, this is the Internet, which means people have opinions, so feel free to share and enjoy.

I can't answer your poll.
For question three, there is no 'I already own all DLC' option,
For the last question, there is no 'I own DLC but prefer modders to not use DLC content' option.

Basically, I'd refer it if modders didn't use DLC content. There are plenty of resources already in-game, and I'm sure there are plenty of modder's resources around on the Nexus too. It's a bit of an inconvenience when you can't download a mod because it relies on Dawnguard content. In some cases, that's fine - Vampire Overhauls, for example - but as a mod user, I think modders should begin a mod without using DLC content. If you need to, so be it. If you don't, then that's great for many end-users.

Since I own all DLC's, I don't really care.

Personally, I think the more things the merrier. And if more official content can be personalized, even better.

Bethesda's DLC usually have pretty good new resources, and i like for modders to make use of them. Like the many dwemer gun and new crossbow mods made with Dawnguard. And since Bethesda's DLC have been quite substansial i have bought them all. Except the build your own house mod (in Oblivion days small additions like that were called "official mods"). House is just a place i store loot that i don't want to sell :hehe:

Gah, forgot an option for people who don't have DLC can choose "not interested in DLC." Fixed. I need to get more sleep at night...

Doesn't this belong in the mod section as it pertains more to modding then general Skyrim, but to answer your question I own two dlcs except for hearthfire as that's what mods are for, now if mod homes allowed us to move family to them I would get it. But overall I fine with whatever modders do as they make mods for fun and I play them for fun.

*shrug* It's not about any specific mod, or how to mod stuff. Seemed like it could fit into either location.

for the fourth question, you should include a option saying "I Have the DLC, but I choose not to install mods"

Eh, I don't feel that option is necessary. Why someone would choose whether or not to play with mods (with or without DLC) deserves it's own topic.

I'd always wanted to try Skyrim on pc, so when it was announced that Beth was done, no more dlc, I bit the bullet and got a good one. Bought the vanilla game and all the dlc again. I'm learning a lot, and having a blast with mods. I have the the dlc's because I like them and it gives me access to mods I like that need those same dlc's. That they give modders more options is a bonus. :)
