Becoming Emperor

Post » Wed Aug 28, 2013 4:55 pm

So http://elderscrollsonline.com/en/game-guide/the-alliance-war on the TESO site it says that "the highest-ranking player of an alliance is crowned Emperor when their alliance takes control of the Imperial City."

How exactly does the game calculate the highest ranking player? Is it the player who has the most PvP kills? Is it the player who has done the most quests? Both?

But really, what is the point of the emperor system if only the most hardcoe of players will be able to become emperor? I'm pretty sure almost everyone of these forums can just give up on ever trying to get the title.

Also is there only one emperor or is there one in every world instance? And for how long are they emperor?

Has there been any word on how they'll exactly be handling this?

From the interviews, we know for sure that you can increase your rank by getting kills and healing allies. Beyond that, I don't know any scoring details.

Personally, I have no problem with the fact that being emperor is probably beyond my reach. It's fitting that the title of emperor would only be available to the most "ambitious." (Okay, so being hardcoe is not the same as ambition, but if I can't/won't put in the hours what makes me more deserving than someone who can?)

"How long will your reign as Emperor last before an ambitious foe cuts you down?"

this implies that you'll lose the emperor status once killed.

oh, i'm going to try really hard to be emperor. giving up is no option.

i'll atleast go for the current emperors head for sure.

I'd wager that this is simply poetic license. Way too many people would become emperor way too quickly if this were the case.

As Maria says https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qf5LjypWZNs&feature=player_detailpage#t=616; "We working on that". Also it has been mentioned that they want to balance the point system so that non-dps intensive builds have a mathematical shot at the throne as well. It will most likely center on activities and participation in Cyrodiil PvP zones or dailys while flagged for PvP. The most likely players that become "... the most powerful person on the battlefield" will most likely be hardcoe PvP'rs.

Kinda hard to justify that "the most powerful person on the battlefield" is the player that is just really good at gathering mats.

Until more info on the rank/point structure is announced we can only speculate and hope for the best.

If there's an emperor whenever a single faction holds the keeps around the Imperial City, and if you lose the Emperor title by dying, then so long as a single faction held the keeps the title would get passed along each time the Emperor was killed.

Um, I think I see what's happening here.

I'm not saying that there would be more than one emperor at a time. I mean that the turnover in being emperor would be too fast. While I don't think anyone should dominate the emperor title for too long, it'd be nice if they could at least enjoy a few battles before losing the title to someone else.

we don't know exactly what kind of power the title brings along, so the title lost upon death could possibly be meaningful. getting out of danger and making the reign last is option as well is dying.

What contributes to your ranking is yet unknown of course, but can assume it'll be some kind of formula based on your contribution to the victory.

I recall them stating that ranking was based on Alliance points. So it may be safe to assume that the player who currently has the most Alliance points when all "imperial" keeps are claimed by their faction will be crowned.

Alliance points are earn thru varies AvA activities, and by killign enemy players and healing friendly players that are fighting. I AM glad that keep taking won't be very high in AP rewards. This means that keeps and Elder scrolls will be more for

global gains that personal gains. Smart move.

Long story short, you will have to put in some serious effort to be #1 on your leaderboard. For those of you that played DAOC, think temporary realm points.

Edit: I don't think dying would lose you the emperor title, that seem silly. But once your faction loses a keep it does. I imagine that if your side recovers all the keeps but someone else has eclipsed you in points then they would be crowned.

Nah, Alliance points are the currency you earn while PvPing in Cyrodiil. You can buy armor, siege weapons to use etc. The Ranking system is what determines the Emperor.

Link is bad, but here: http://elderscrollsonline.com/en/game-guide/the-alliance-war Bottom of page can see where it talks about the points being used to buy siege equipment. Wouldn't make sense if you can become Emperor by simply not spending your points.

Its maria's interview and she says its based on most AP earned. Im sure its ok to spend the points, and the game just tracks how many you've earned to determine your leaderboard rank. seems easy.

These two things are not mutually exclusive. Ranking could be based on total AP earned.

I'm thinking RPs are like xp, you earn ranks once a number has been achieved. You can also use RPS earned for siege etc but it is seperate from total rps towards rank. IE You have a rank of 6, 15k RPS earned, but only 1200 to spend on siege etc.

Thanks for clearing it up, guys. I suppose it being skill based is better than it being a popularity contest in which case we'd probably just get some "youtube celebrity" as emperor.

I just think it would be nice if more than just the most elite players would have a chance of being Emperor. Maybe other players should be able to join the Elder Council? Not quite Emperor but still a cool rank.

Some where i remember them saying the AP keeps a running total as your rank, you have a certain amount of points to spend but it still keeps the running total seperate so you never lose rank, this is how it could use the formula for emporor. In daoc it was a running total of realm points for ranks, the points you spent on goods were bounty pounts that could run out also you guild got guild bounty points to spend on things like upgrading the keep they controlled, we could also see a similiar system like this in ESO

Each campaign (many campaigns like servers from other games) will have its own emporor when one side controls ALL the imperial keeps at the same time. In the lastest interviews they said this is very hard for one side to do. They did not say what causes you to lose the emporor title but they did say that once you have been emporor you will always have access to that skill line BUT it wont be nearly as powerful as when you CURRENTLY are the emporor.

Such a drag that there's no politics or intrigue involved in becoming the most powerful player in Tamriel. Just climb the call of duty board and pay others to play your character for you. High warlord/ Grand marshal anyone that remembers the PvP patch for WoW classic?
