Release date pushed back to Spring 2014.

Post » Mon Sep 02, 2013 12:56 pm

Seriously this blows. Been looking forward to this all year as my winter game. Came to check on how the Beta's going since it should have been getting closer to release and BAM. Postponed to add in console play. Really. That means like all spring release games, I'll Play it for a month if at all and might play it next winter. Any other game than ESO and it wouldn't stand a chance with new games always coming out. Why would you release a game when most people ready to enjoy some nice weather outdoors. Then wonder why so many people quit playing in a month, The devs panic after a few months and we have another Free to play aka Pay to Win game.

Umm.....so since you don't play during the summer, they shouldn't release a game in the spring?

You do realize many gamers burst into flames if they are exposed to direct sunlight, right?

Matt Firor already said the game is basically finished only thing left is polish. I really hope they nail this down because it currently needs it.

Polish is good. Else you wind up like Final Fantasy 42 and have people AFKing forever so they can play again later because no one can log in because people are AFKing because no one can log in due to the queues of people trying to log in because other people are AFKing......

well, considering 1st day of spring is March 20th 2014,

how long does a typical "open Beta" last?

I see it as more time for ZOS to get it how they want it and to look at feedback from the betas.

Welcome to mmos, release dates change. Releasing unfinished game is worst thing an mmo developers can do

why do people HAVE to buy the game the week of launch, This thing is going to be around for several years so if you are busy in the spring/summer just pick it up in the following winter.

By then you will be able to play with Thieves guild and the Morality system from start rather than try and adapt an existing character to it or reroll. And you will have months worth of balance tweaks and content patches that make the game better.

What is this outdoors you speak of?

Just to give you some information, SW:TOR released in December middle of winter and it was free to play by the end of its first year. So your theory doesn't hold water about game being released in spring. Eve Online was released in May 2003 and its still going strong.

How many light years are you away from Earth to have finally hear that news? :P

We don't know whether it was postponed because of the console release, I'm inclined to believe that the console ports card has been on the deck for some time before this was announced at E3, ZOS claims this delay in release to down to beta feedback, and since this is under NDA, we, the wider public might be completely obvious to a major point in gameplay which would have been very uncool for a lot of TES fans or even to expand on the game to deliver a game that is more attuned to which TES is.

The cynical is strong in this one, you can have free to play game which do not incentivise a pay to win mode. Warframe for example is a game which allows you to grind it out if you want to go progress through the game using different weapons.

I'm surprised they were committing to release a game of this magnitude on the next-gen console platforms so soon after they launch. The delay is probably good news for console people, but as a PC gamer it does make me nervous.
